With all due respect you're totally missing the point. This is as much a gesture of defiance to the terrorists as it a gesture of good will to the lad. A trip to Sunderland is hardly likely to be life changing for the lad but it makes a point for those who contribute. It's all very well saying, time after time, I wish I could say my piece to these people, we'll here's just one little chance. I'm sure there are thousands of sick children but, for whatever reason, little Bradley Lowery became a figurehead for them. There are times when you should sit back and reconsider, this may be your moment.

Any positive out of that incident is a something for our country to takes pride and hope from. Everyone of the people who got stuck in and saved lives by sacrifices thoughts of their own safety is a ****ing legend. I'm a pretty cynical chap but you have me well beat there. To be honest I think he's everything that's brilliant about our country. **** you... I'm Millwall... That's tribal... it's hooliganism and for the past thirty years it's been everything that's wrong with our sport and our nation. That night it was something noble. Little things pale in comparison when you're under attack. Little rivalries mean nothing. It's us versus them and that chap made a difference in the fight.
As I said in my original post he got the publicity via TV and papers, but he was not unique that night: Pub doorman who confronted London attackers Osmanu Gandaa, a doorman at the Wheatsheaf pub in Borough Market, tells how he confronted the London Bridge attackers and directed people to safety. Osmanu lost friends in the deadly attack in London Bridge earlier this month. There is an accompanying video on the BBC News site that hasn't turned out when I copied this.
There's absolutely nothing stopping you starting a fund for the doorman is there? But, of course, it's always much easier to moan about other people than actually do something yourself. I started this fund because the person, in question, was a football supporter whose team will be playing in Sunderland this season. What do you suggest I do with the doorman, organise a night on the doors in town ..... why would he even want to come to Sunderland? I spent almost 2 decades on the doors so have a natural empathy with the doorman but this is a football forum so I'd have thought it was quite natural to have a football based gesture ..... if you can't follow that logic then it appears you're simply after an argument where there really isn't one. It's not even true to say the doorman's story wasn't in the media, it was. He was interviewed on the BBC and appeared in the Evening Standard as well as other outlets. So some people enjoyed the story about the daft Millwall lad, big deal.
Are you implying that his allegiance to his football club supersedes his act of bravery or something? The guy put his life on the line, knowing fine well there was a very good chance he was going to be fatally wounded and you're yapping on as if he did nothing that anybody else wouldn't have done. You'd have probably pissed your pants and cried if you were confronted with something similar.

Well the fund is doing well and there should be enough to give the lad some proper Sunderland hospitality. The media in London have picked up on it and the NE media have also contacted us. If I become a target for terrorists who wish me harm, because of this, they'll find themselves at the back of a very long queue Mebbe's best to keep out of the Victory, on that day, or at least watch out for any dark skinned lads with machetes.

By all means arrange your fest for this man. Read my post again since all I said was he may have used the name of his football club to dive into the situation whilst others did the same, but his was the best story at the time to show the "Spirit of London" as the media saw it. Others were just as effective. By all means have your media weekend and do whatever you wish, but you really are turning this into an overblown gratitude gesture. But, if that is your way feel free.
He was as brave as many others which I have already acknowledged, others did the same. What I would have done in that situation you will never know. But by all means have your cheap shot. PS: Welcome back.
