I hope they paid in cash....don't want to be loaded with debt like United, because we haven't their where-with-all.

Can't help but feel them saying no players will be sold is as empty as the usual "we don't need to sell this summer" line that us fans get fed every year.

Would imagine the longer this drags on, the more difficult it will be to name a new manager and the signing of new players?

Doubt it has anything to do with it - the people involved in that are going to be staying on regardless.

I wish the takeover and Puels future would hurry the f*ck up and conclude!

Weird saying they're not going to sell anyone before there's a manager in place. J-Rod? Berty? Really?

Why do I feel uneasy about this takeover?

Possibly because the Liebherr's have been such good owners I cannot believe anyone else could be as good or even better.

Fully support this St G, I have a friend who works for Villa and I get regular feedback on the goings on behind the scenes.
Steady progression and stability isn't the Chinese way. Throw everything at the team on day one and then panic when the investment doesn't buy an immediate result and then reign back hard whilst loosing interest. Wait for the trouble at Villa Park this summer

Wait and see is how I live. Not going to worry about something that may never happen. I am just going to see how it goes.

    Question.

This deal values us at around 240 mil. Surely our playing squad is worth more than that? Especially if vvd is 70mil!

So, does this mean we are probably Carrying a fair chunk of debt?

Perhaps in part because of the possibility of relegation, club values don't make a tonne of sense to me...by rights, they should be much higher than they are.

As an example, the Miami Marlins in Major League Baseball had revenues that equate to about 162m GBP last year; that's probably pretty close to our revenues, maybe even a shade below. They lost money.

The team is valued at about 750m GBP, and there was talk of bids that would exceed $1b GBP.

I completely agree with this. Not just that, but if it does happen, why worry about something we can't control? Plenty of people want investment to take us that next step, they can't then get picky when an opportunity presents itself.

I understand your apprehension Godders. You are cautious about embracing change. It's a well known condition of the timid and the old. ;)

Not sure, but I think players are valued at what you paid for them.....otherwise it would be all guess work. Unless it is based on insurance value....and again that is arbitrary.

Spot on Fran, players are deemed as Intangible Fixed Assets. So the equivalent of a patent or a brand name.

Accounting for a players cost is relatively straight forward. The cost will be accounted for initially as an asset and that asset will be depreciated or amortized down across the length of the players contract(s)

In terms of valuing an intangible asset, you will need a reliable trading comparison, which would be the transfer market, but prices are so variable in this market then it's questionable that its entirely reliable. Add to the fact that a player is a bad tackle away from being worthless and players sold will often need to be replaced and I would guess that a playing squad is not as big a factor in clubs price as you might expect

Spot on. Why worry about stuff we have no control over and although I love Saints, it doesn't directly affect me of the health of my family.

Also, there are worse things to worry about than a Chinese Billionaire buying 80% of the Saints, whilst our current loved Billionaire maintains 20% to ensure it is a smooth takeover.
