You might line up a manager....as we did with Nigel. After all if we didn't land Poch, Adkins would just have carried on none the wiser. However, I don't believe for one minute that we are entertaining the idea of going into next season with a manager who knows he isn't wanted. He'd have even less power with the players than he does now.
If we manage to Sign up Schmidt or Tuchel then it will be a coup for the club, Just wished the club handled it better., But like someone has said, Who's to say It was handled properly behind the scenes..
So I was wrong about being wrong?? From now on I'm going to stick to thinking I'm right all the time!
Horrendous from our board. At least Koeman didn't actively shop for a move last year. What we have done to Puel is more undignified than what he did to us.
I'm not sure that's true Fran. Nigel knew from the moment we won promotion to the PL that his days were numbered. Think back to that interview he gave amid all the euphoria, when he hinted that all wasn't rosy behind the scenes. He still gave his all until the moment Pochettino was signed though.
Shouldn't we assume our board is acting in the best interests of us and the club until shown otherwise? What's the evidence they are behaving shabbily? I'm starting to feel like a lone voice again, maybe I should take a rest from this
Just so I understand the position correctly. The majority of fans don't want to see Puel as manager but Ralph is being criticised for not backing him just before the last game of the season. Claude meets St Etiene on two occasions (allegedly) which is OK when he's under contract but the club start looking around at other managerial options (allegedly) and that's a shabby way to behave. Finally although no actual changes have taken place and there is nothing official to report, the club are behaving very badly because they have failed to make a statement saying no actual changes have taken place. Alongside this, players loyalty is being brought into question because they are (allegedly) seriously considering a 300%+ increase in wages at a club that can offer them European football and because no statement is being made by the club we can safely conclude (sic) that the club are dragging their feet again and failing to think about long term replacements. Have I missed anything?
I get where people are coming from and obviously not nice for Puel. But this is top level pro sport and he's getting paid top dollar. That's the way these industries work unfortunately, not ideal but I'm sure Puel was aware this may happen.
Not a lone voice at all. Hypothetically speaking now: Season finishes, Claude indicates his preference to leave (possibly by mutual consent), goes to St Etienne to see what they have to offer but the deal on the table to buy him out of his contract is expensive. Puel goes back to the club to meet the board, board have to firefight the possibility of being managerless but still see the mutual consent leaving as the best option. Therefore by implying a sacking, there is no need to worry about compensation and everyone is happy... or at least has the outcome that suits each interested party.
I do find it surprising how everyone jumps to castigate the board without evidence. Usually when people support something or someone, they are blind to their faults, whereas many Saints fans seem to jump to suspect the worst. The only thing Saints are guilty of is never making things public until it is all settled......they don't do running commentaries.
I can kind of understand the argument, but hauling a manager back into the technical area because you missed out on more preferable candidates - after it became common knowledge that you were looking to bin him off - is not good practice. Puel is already up against it with the squad and the fans and stuff like this really isn't going to strengthen his hand in any way, if he does eventually end up returning. I stick to my point: he deserves better and this situation is not healthy for Claude or the club.
Good shout....Id like the look of him based on the picture alone, it sounds weird and Im not having a pop at Claude, but his facial expression says passion and intensity....I like that as a first impression and while Im sure Claude had it, it didnt come across in that way.
I agree, but we have no proof that that is what they are doing. The fact that Claude appears to have at least considered another job suggests that an amicable solution is being sought. Both parties are looking around and a fait accompli will hopefully be announced in due course. If Puel can't find a job that he would consider at the moment, he will no doubt receive a negotiated pay off.....and, although I would have liked to see him get his second season, it may suit him very well. He has had an unhappy time here....I know I'd love to get paid to leave a job that didn't suit me. All supposition, but then so is what everyone is rending their shirts about.
