When we bought Mane some people complained about his discipline, I don't think he has put a foot wrong since we bought him.
Yeah he is brilliant. I would like him but i'm not sure i would pay more than 50+, even then i shudder when i see that transfer fee on a defender. It depends on Contes system and it would mean the end for Cahill who i have a lot of time for but deep down know he's not good enough for a top class team. For us though we also have a lot of defenders coming through in Ake and Christensen so by buying VVD it would effectively mean they have no place in the team. I would prefer us to get a really really powerful CM and a new striker as well as a new LWB and RWB. Moses and Alonso are very good but you saw against Arsenal and Spurs when they are not the best fullbacks and against better ones, they are easily nullified.
Oh I certainly could. There's probably posts on this thread from me from last year telling everyone moaning about the price that he's a class act.
Virgil? I'd struggle to argue with you tbh mate. I can see him at one of the big boys in Spain in a couple of years. He really is that good... when you see him every week you'll understand, espescially those who watch him live.
He had Mane and a couple other Liverpool players in his pocket earlier in the season. Only seen highlights of him otherwise, so not sure ho great he his.
Mane will be considered world class within 18 months or so. Not sure Coutinho will ever be consistent enough.
When Coutinho is on it he is untouchable, but you are right its the consistency he lacks. Still phenomenal mind.
You'd certainly know better than me mate, but I've always seen him as a very good player who will never quite reach that level.
Fantastic WUM article, probably too subtle for most to notice: "The defender has been Jurgen Klopp’s main transfer priority this summer, but he knows the competition from Liverpool’s rivals is significant. Chelsea were especially interested and in recent days Manchester City were thought to have gained the upper hand because of their financial power. Arsenal are also interested."
Yep if you watched him every week you'd soon change your mind, great player and IMO he was consistent last season other than the period just after injury.
Yeah, £50m is a huge sum and we are smashing our transfer record. Plus wages of course. But Klopp has identified vD as the CB he wants to pair up with Matip and it seems vD wants to come to Liverpool. Exciting times for us.
Quite a few 'in the knows' saying VVD is pretty much done now (Not random Twitter nobs, but people who've been correct and ahead of the press in the past) so maybe Jimmy was right all a long! He better not be Lovren MkII though. Where does this leave Gomez? Assuming it'll be Van Dijk and Matip starting, Lovren on the bench and Klavan fourth pick with Sakho sold - Lucas and Gomez for the cups?
Gomez will soon replace Klavan as 4th centre back. Gomez is young and improving, Klavan is getting older and slower.
