I guess that debunks the "if you think you've got more than one Derby horse, you've probably got none" theory ??? Whole new ball game with Coolmore. How often do these 2nd/3rd/4th strings pop up at huge prices. Very often these past 5 years or so. Definitely a profitable system if you can limit yourself to the Group 1's.
Thanks to all - now off to a sports dinner to listen to Anthony Joshua - quite a day !! Stay well and stay lucky boys
Great call, Ekbalco. The Palace faithful have filled their boots, too, for non-racing reasons. I was the bagman at the pub - can anyone tell me the Betfair SP so that I can pay the two blokes who wanted it (they're the sophisticated set from the Sainsbury's end, obviously)?
Great shout Ekbalco Very impressive from Wings Of Eagles who had a horrible run up the Epsom straight. Third-last round Tattenham corner, he was badly impeded twice, firstly by Rekindling at the 3 pole and again by Dubai Thunder approaching the 2 pole - the jockey really snatched him up both times. Once he saw daylight after the 2-pole he really took off and won going away. I think he would have won more readily with a clear run. I assume we'll see him in the Irish Derby where the track should really suit him.
Okay chaps, if you got your fingers burned on the Derby (like me), here is one to recoup the losses: Doncaster 5:40 MOJITO I have been told this one from a reliable source but you will not get a very big price (is favourite or second favourite in most lists) as it was a good third last time out and now steps back up to a mile.
Cracksman best horse in the race imo, no Golden Horn but on a normal track Id expect him to beat them. What can you say about Coolmore, no rules against what they are doing, not great for fans of the sport. Even if you put a cap on the number of entries from an owner or trainer, they would just split them between the 3 colours and give some to Joseph.
He's either very inexperienced or he is just slow. He was always being nudged along. I think John Gosdon would have had him well enough trained to avoid the former even with only two runs. As oddy mentioned, a lot has gone wrong for the winner. I think he'll be even better back over 10f Some run from CoM aswell considering the state of him before the start. I normally don't take mush notice of them sweating but he properly lost the head.
Cracksman didnt handle the track, didnt when he won the trial either. Was also only his 3rd run. The winner probably wont win another race this season.
He's been push along from three quarters of a mile out. It's not the camber that's caught him out he just couldn't go with them. He's a good horse but he's not going to be anything special. Third in a very weak derby is about as good as he is.
Think I should give the rest of this weekend a miss... I nearly get flattened on the pedestrian crossing by a cyclist going to the bookies and then the nag gets beaten and the winner is one that was in my notebook from Newmarket. I should do Real Madrid v Juventus to be 0-0 just to guarantee some goals.
