http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport2/hi/football/14497043.stm "I spoke with their chief executive and they want to help us out but the wages are amazing, even at League One.....he is a big player with a big club in the Premier League." (Paolo di Canio)
"A man puts in his last week as a bartender at an eccentric Irish pub in a part of London with a large expatriate Irish community known jokily as County Kilburn."??? My Dad, an only child (1916-93), went to all the R's home games with his Dad. I believe that the Sat schedule was a "boys" pub lunch, followed by the game, pick up Mum for dinner, then off for an evening of old time music hall (I remember Dad's rendition of Harry Champion in his 80's with red dyed hair belting out "any old iron"! I am displaced from UK for almost 40 yrs, but recall Dad sometimes talking about Kilburn, so selected this as my monicker. I note former London family addreses of 109 Fernhead Rd, 3 Bradiston Rd (geographically fairly close together) and also Evelyn Ave. which appears to be in Kilburn. Dad passed on his love of the R's to me (my brother had no interest) and since our family lived in Hampshire, I remember visits in the 60's to Bournemouth away games where Dad was always quite vocal, sometimes attracting the attention of home supporters (in a fairly good natured way though). Later in the early 70's Dad & I went to Loftus Road for a few home games together and I was fortunate to have the opportunity to watch both Rodney Marsh & Stan Bowles in action. Tucked away somewhere I believe I still have a QPR rossette, a team scarf, game programs, plus a WW2 era air raid rattle which Dad proudly painted blue & white, and of course a QPR team Subutteo soccer set. Away on vacation I was thrilled to pick up a TV feed of the Bolton game and nervously enjoyed the 1st half action, really disappointed by the late goal, then by the manner in which the team fell apart in the 2nd half. I guess and hope it can only be upwards from here?
Di Canio does seem to be getting a lot more backing than wilson/others last year, problem is they royally pissed of a lot of the fans by leaving the relegation fight way to late, gates were down. However Leon may see this a project that he could easily rise to, he'd be a big name round here. Fans would would see it a signing a premier league player. Anythings possible, so smoke without fire on this. Best for all (even if we cover some of the wages)
