Last season our point total was 60 we were 8th in the league .We were in two cup finals, league cup and Europa cup finals but never won any of them. This season, our points total is 76 and we did not go far in cup competition, but we came 4th in the league. If we are progressing we have to move further up in the league possibly win the league or any trophy. Your candid opinion are we progressing?
Yes I'd say. Had we not got top 4 then I would say we failed this season. However, we did, and that goes down as decent from me. Next year is huge for us with the increase in games.
We have definitely progressed. Over the last 20 years we have qualified for the champions league about 9 times, of which most recently was with Rodgers and Suarez football club. Once he left, we were nothing special, yet Klopp has got us there and with 76 points, only 8 points less than when I thought we were unstoppable with Suarez up top. We have some very good players, but no one like Torres or Suarez in the team. Yet we got to the Europa final last season and now top 4 this season. Yes we could have done even a bit better without injuries and ACON, but we have lots to celebrate and now we have a chance to strengthen and take another step.
My Brother-in-law just sent me link from ESPN saying that we're seeded. Dunno if it's true, but if so I'll have a lot better summer now. I've posted it on the Boro match thread.
Liverpool WILL be seeded for Champions League play-off They enter in the non-champions section of the play-off draw, which includes five seeded teams and five non-seeded teams please log in to view this image
Chelsea: 43 points of progress (sacking Mourinho bonus) on a £51m net spend Liverpool: 16 points of progress on a -£7m net spend Tottenham: 16 points of progress on a £28m net spend Everton: 14 points of progress on a £22m net spend Man City: 12 points of progress on a £165m net spend Arsenal: 4 points of progress on a £86m net spend Man Utd: 3 points of progress (thank **** for Fat Sam rolling over) on a £102m net spend #perfectseason Leicester: -37 proints of progress on a £21m net spend
I thinkmyou will find the stability at the top helped. It seems like rather than the huge prem money driving the others on the top 6 just took back over and dominated totally. You've just pointed out that they all gained points, even arsenal 2nds place but 4 points better off and are 5th. Last year was a **** show from all so..... they should,d improve on it frankly
The only team that improved more than us won the league Spurs will go backwards because of the stadium move #nailedon Arsenal will too We didn't invest last window because we had no need for a big squad (just to be prepared for the worst injury record in the league) so we will have significant investment for next season Top 3 is #nailedon
Well, we've got top four for the first time since Suarez was roping everyone a new arsehole so yeah, we've made progress. Pretty sure we'll make a few signings this summer, especially with European football to contend with too. I also suspect we'll see a few leave too mind
My opinion is that we have made progress since the sacking of Rodgers. But in terms of where we are at, then I've got to say we are nowhere near the team we had with Suarez (which should have won the title). The real downer this season has been the slide down the table after we had a realistic challenge for the title in November/December. To me and many others, we should have prepared more for injuries by having a bigger and better squad. Basically we had to buy last summer and winter. With a better quality squad, we would have had an even better season. I don't buy this rather artificial (and silly) points per money spent argument. In that case the best seasons are always had by the likes of Southampton and other selling clubs as they always have a negative net spend. Next season, we could have a great season, good cup runs, get the same number of points and be 2nd or even first (unlikely) after having spent £100m. We would have made definite progress but looking at the stats like an accountant we would think it was appalling. It should be about the football, the trophies, the league positions and challenges and not points.
Games 1-19. 2.26ppg (86pts) Games 20-26. 0.85ppg (33pts) Games 27-38. 2.25ppg (86pts) That block during jan and Feb really ****ed us
When we were able to beat West Ham by that mrgin in their own backyard it was an improvement, we had not beaten them in five games before that, I knew rightaway fourth is for us to throw away. I put West Ham game as a draw before in my forcast, but , when we are unable to beat Southampton, I knew West Ham is a must win game.
I've just posted something similar on the Spurs board about slow progress being far better than flash success because using Leicester as an example it's no good. Building up steam slowly is better than success one year and failure the next because slow progress means a team usually stays longer at the top. When I posted my thread I immediately thought of Klopp and Liverpool as a comparison. You ARE doing it right, just be patient, go slowly and the trophies will come.
We had Mane missing at that time as well as injuries to key players. This is the area that Klopp has to address. There will ALWAYS be injuries and suspensions. We are not going to be the exception to the rule. And we have to find a way to deal with defensive teams, coming for one point. Unless we address that, we won't make further progress.
As Pogba isn't exactly setting Trafford alight I've sometimes wondered whether he'd be a good option for you.
.......No thanks. We'll be bringing in better quality than Pogba for less than half the price. We don't need massive ego's
