Given the last couple of months there has to be serious doubt that Hendo can even be cover for Can. We can't make the mistake of carrying a player who is not fit enough to play when needed or even to be competition for our first choice. Look at the mess we've got in to with Sturridge.
It's a concern, I'd also keep Studge as well though as long as we buy a replacement and he knows he has to stay fit and fight for a place. Same with Hendo really but we have Can, Allen is an unknown at this point but if we buy a DM then have Can, Hendo, 1 other and Allen it's simply too many options. I suppose we have to either say Hendo goes and we buy or he's back up and will play less anyway.
Brazillian kid has no work permit so can't play for us. Lucas as squad option to come off bench and play in cups is more than fine. If he's happy with that role for a year then great, he's closest thing to a scuser in the squad! If he wants first team football every week then he'll need to move on.
We're really lacking quality attacking players in central midfield. Only Coutinho can playmake whereas Can, Gin are more about supporting the attack with runs into the box. Lallana isn't that creative but helps keeps things ticking - like a better Joe Allen.
Pretty sure read recently that already been agreed to another loan next year as can't get work permit for us.
I read a lot of comments saying we lack depth in our squad, then many of the same posters desperate to get rid of their pet hates. We're not City or Chelsea, and we can't afford to assemble a squad of 26 or whatever worldies in 4 or 5 windows. Of course players like Lucas shouldn't be first choice, but until they are way down the pecking order why get rid? He can still do a job when called upon if we are hit by a spate of injuries or overloaded with fixture congestion. So imo, we keep them for now and bring in better players above them until they are so far down the list as to be irrelevant and no longer needed. Getting rid for the sake of it seems pointless to me.
With respect. Whats our aim? In answering that my key point would be no plan survives the first few games. So my point in lucas would be: 5 games into season he could be required to play for 3/4 months...he clearly cannot any more than kolo toure could last season. Ergo... if he cant do that hes not a squad player is he? It really is that simple. As nice and comitted a guy that he is if he cant fill in properly for ten games then keeping just proves what our aim really is. Also.. if we are not chelsea how can we keep players to push them down that list while buying... cos ijf we are not chelsea we cant afford it.
The aim is to keep enough solid pros to fall back on if necessary. Like I said, we're not in a position to have 2 top-class players across the park, so there are bound to be times when we're looking to fill in with someone who isn't ideal but is a reasonable fall-back option. Isn't that why we have a squad? It's threadbare atm, so why dump players when they're not adequately replaced and perpetuate that situation?
Lucas is not a squad player that we can rotate with. He would be literally a back up to the back up. And in my opinion, if the guy isn't good enough to be rotated regularly, then he's not good enough to be in the squad. Same with Moreno - klopp clearly doesn't trust Moreno so there's no point in keeping him. I understand what Saint is saying - we're already threadbare so we should be adding players more than anything.
Most Premier League yellow cards for diving since 2011/12: Gareth Bale (6) Wilfried Zaha (3) Daniel Sturridge (3) Charlie Adam (3)
Ok leave Lucas out of it and Moreno, I think what Saint is saying is that players like Studge, Lovren, Milner, Hendo even Clyne should be retained and used in the squad. Wouldn't be a bad bench.
