    ......... seriously.

Over the years I've taken some serious flak, on here, for 'boasting' about my life and various adventures.

Certain people seem to really despise any mention of my day to day stuff.

This is despite the fact that many other posters talk about their daily life & jobs some of whom have interesting situations and work in some pretty funky countries etc. I'm always genuinely interested in them and happily chat about it on here.

Perhaps I've mentioned things too much but, in my defence, am still fascinated and surprised by what I've done. I was born into a Durham mining family and lived in what would be considered a hovel these days .... no bathroom, midden across the street and 2 rooms for 2 adults and 4 kids.

I've spent the last 20 years living in the most incredible homes in Italy, the south of France, now the poshest bit of Surrey and have John Terry, Brian May, Eric Clapton, etc as neighbours ..... it's all been crazy but each employer has depended on me more than I have on them.
Every time they've annoyed me I've walked and they've begged me to come back.

For the son of a coal face pickaxe weilding miner I'd say it's been a decent achievement.

The travelling staff, butlers, chauffeurs, advisors, etc all run scared of me because I'm just a typical NE bloke who's warm, generous and friendly unless someone takes the piss and I get really ****ing nasty ...... I doubt many of us, on here, are much different tbh.

No idea what this post is about btw ...... answers on a postcard <laugh>

Personally, I enjoy hearing about what you've been up to. You've done well for yourself and you should be proud. If you could sprinkle some of that magic my way I'd be grateful <laugh>.

You're the least "bad person" I can think of. You're a proper salt of the earth bloke and that's more than most people out there.

I love reading about what you are doing mate like you i walk out the front of our house to the river and there is Herons, Otters, King fishers more varieties of ducks than you can imagine sea trout and salmon in basins ( upto 100 upto 20lb in weight just sat there waiting for the rain to move up river ) and to top all that I can walk down the footpath and shop in Booths which has to be the best food shop in the country ( probably the most expensive as well mind ) always getting told off off our lass for spending to much <laugh> .

I like hearing about what everyone is up to whether they're sitting on a solid gold toilet or scrubbing someone else's.

No need to apologise for being successful in life mate.

And no doubt there's a better half been doing most of the back seat driving to where you've arrived at. They get the credit too.

    I know mine does!

The lack of middens is what makes kids soft these days ....

... walking through a foot of snow to wipe yer arse with the Daily Mirror was truly character building <laugh>

I'm just back from a conversation with the Sheikh, who turned up tonight, and tried explaining bath night in Allendale Cottages.

I was reminiscing about this thread and he was fascinated.

Bath night was a tin bath with Dad in first, to get the pit dirt off, then the 4 kids would take turns based on age.

He was half laughing and half appalled .<doh>

Excellent post that. Done it all.
We had a bucket upstairs to piss in during the night which would be slopped out in the morning.

Not many kids were the introverts there are now mate ...... It was fkn hard but we grew up able to fend for ourselves.

I've been in some pretty scary situations, as you have, and it's only my upbringing that's got me through.

I have no issues with you mate, nor do I have with most other posters on here. Each to their own is my philosophy and if you've managed to do well, then more power to your elbow, isn't that what we all strive to achieve? I certainly do.

Born and bred a mackem, dragged up on a council estate just like most others on here, but I could fill two books about my escapades since leaving school and travelling throughout my career, only problem is, no one would believe me. :) :) :)
