Emotionally I've been feeling all of a quiver knowing the old ground is to be demolished from Monday! Then looking through these fabulous early photos the quivers turned me into a trembling, nostalgic wreck because photo 11 shows the bench where I sat from 5 yrs old. As I've mentioned in previous posts my Dad would lift me over the little fence & I sat good as gold watching the band before kick off. Never once did anyone from the club ever query my sitting there! Seeing the bench again, where I sat over 70 years ago is awesome. Willie Hall with his feet on it was one of Dads heroes. I have been trying to think of the most memorable times over the years but there are to many so I'll just pick a few: 1961. The night we won the league. Fabulous night when we all ran on the pitch & the players came into the directors box to celebrate with us. 1961. Having a great knees up in Tottenham High Road celebrating the FA Cup win double. When the pubs turned out we all danced in the road, traffic was at a standstill but nobody minded. What a night! No fighting, no aggression, no drunks just happy & merry. 1962. Another good season, nearly won league again & picked up another FA Cup plus great European cup nights. They were something else. I've never forgotten the fun & atmosphere of those nights at the Lane with the Glory Glory Hallelujahs so loud they rattled the rafters. I know there have been many many more special times over the years but to me these are MOST special and still have not been replicated. Going 'down the Spurs' was such a large part of my life for so many years that the demise of the old ground fills me with sadness but we would still be living in caves without progress I s'pose..... A memory of a recent-ish clash with Utd at the Lane and one of the great goals: (starts at 51 secs in although Walkers opener is worth a look too ) What I love is Soldado's reaction as it flies in!! He couldn't believe it - and he wasn't alone!!
We're shelf side shelf side shelf side tottenham We're park lane park lane park lane tottenham Last time here ... weird feeling Coys
Never gonna forget this day with my daughter Goodbye and thanks for some great memories as a kid and as a dad
Thanks OS Hope you enjoyed your day as much as me and my youngest did. Thought the club handled events perfectly
I did thank you. I agree the club pitched it well, it was just right imo. I had a great day, met the wonderful Martin Jol, caught up with my old mate Harry Redknapp and was star struck as I always am when I see Ginola. Good to see ENO back again as well. Thought the atmosphere was unbelievable throughout and it was clear during the finale, that some of the legends love us as much as we love them.
Sounds fantastic ... loved the Martin Jol song blaring out . Very special day and me and my daughter Feeling so emotional tonight. Can not believe we went unbeaten at home in our final season COYS
Great to see this great man back at the Lane today. Forever grateful for transforming us from the mid-table club that we were in the early 2000s to a team competing in Europe again, with the player attraction that brings.
