More quotes coming from twitter. This is real.. I don't know how happy I'll be if he is the only striker we bring in like but he certainly sounds impressive.

    This seems quite an interesting quote from SSN;

"I met everyone at Newcastle. They want me and it is not just any club. Premier League is a dream".

Does this mean he's already been around Newcastle training facilities etc? Benny, Cabaye, Marveaux, Abeid????? Seems as if this move is really taking shape. Lets hope :)

<laugh> Careful.. it only takes seconds for a thread to derail into a Cabaye love in.

i thought the same thing to be honest. unless the rules are different in france? or his club let him but are now trying to rinse a few extra quid out of us by playing hard ball?

one little thing im a bit gutted about is how we have gone from a good base of English players to now having a heavy french presence. im not complaining like.. as the french guys seem like very good players.. but i always liked us leading the way with a good number of english players starting. but i guess we cannot have the best of both worlds atm.

My thoughts exactly, I feel like I can relate to the team more and felt very proud of the english core we had last season, but times change and hopefully everyone will grow to love the new guys, especially Cabaye and his painfully good looks.

My money is on Hatem... he seems like the No.1 negotiator in these parts.. soon to be taking the crown off gazza. haha

maybe he offered him a night with Cabaye and a tub of goose fat, mmmmmm

i dunno, i think we still have a decent spine of English players in the team. maybe they won't all be first team regulars but i personally don't mind so long as we have a competetive line up starting every game. it would be nice in an ideal world but like you say beggars can't be choosers.

If we win stuff and the players care about the team then I'm not bothered what country they're from. It's always good having English players like, but it's good having a mix of nationalities too! Sometimes you just get sick of the "well.. we didn't win, but at least we gave it a bloody good go!" attitude that the English are known for.

    French flair over English 'grit'!

I like articles like that, where it says players are demanding moves here. For all of the negative press which says people want out and puts any player off joining us, at least there are a few who would still like to come here.

He reminds me of Adebayor when he went to Arsenal, so it looks good

Anyway, he seems like a canny good player. Better than I was expecting if were going for him. 15 goals in Ligue 1 in a Sochaux side which managed 5th last season. It's interesting when you compare that to someone like Sow, who despite scoring 20+ goals for title-winning Lille, had Gervinho and Hazard on either side of him. Maiga didn't have such a luxury, so I'd expect more from him.

£8mill for him plus £7-8mill for Pieters means that's almost £16million alone. Add Cabaye for £5mill, Obertan for £3mill and Ben Arfa's permanent signing for £5mill and that's £29million this year! Throwing in the signing on fees and agent fees of Ba, Marveaux and Abeid, I'd say we'll have spent over £30million.

I think the players we've sold has overshadowed the fact that, if we pull these signings off, we'll be one of the biggest spenders in the league this year. Didn't see that coming. Just a shame we had to lose Enrique and Nolan to do it.

So if we sign him we could be without him, Ba and Ameobi in January. Hopefully Best and Ben Arfa will not be injured.

    This.

I don't care about the players nationalities, as long as they play and care for the club.
