I enjoy going, me and my Dad make a whole day of it. One thing that would stop me going would be because of the atmosphere this season. Don't know whether that's because we have a lot of "new" fans, or people just like to complain at the moment. Brings the whole match day experience down.

    Again. You're missing the point.
This isn't a discussion about ways to improve, this is stubbornness to admit that maybe, we should have higher ambitions than to give someone more time when it is clearly not working. The discussion seems to end when anyone says that they don't think Puel should be in the job next year.

I'm renewing my season ticket. I hope I'm wrong about Puel. I'm not burying my head. My head is high above ground and I can see that we've tried with him, but it's probably not going to work.

Let's see how attitudes are if we lose to Boro, Utd and Stoke.

My godson was the same. Got moaned at by his father constantly. Even when they got home he was still telling him what he should have done and not in a good way. It's difficult not to wade in. :emoticon-0127-lipss

The point is still the same, if anyone gets constant criticism at work it is hardly going to improve their confidence.

It is not even remotely the same. This is a job where you are watched and evaluated by thousands, probably 100s of thousands, every week. There are only a handful of people who's opinion should matter to the players, the coaching staff. If the players are that thin skinned that they can't take criticism from effectively nobodies in the crowd/media then they have chosen the wrong profession.

Glad we have a team of automatons without a range of normal human emotions.

Anyhow, the child analogy was brought up originally to say a father bollocks a child when they do things wrong, why shouldn't we do the same, which you all rushed to 'like'. Which way do you want it?

Well I think that the Saints fans have been crap this season and the negative atmosphere in the stadium has not helped the team in any way, I dread to think what it would be like if we were struggling at the bottom of the table, but weirdly it might be better because we would have something to play for.

Because most father's will not "bollock" their child in the same way they would "bollock" a grown man. There is a vast difference without taking into consideration that the adult is a professional in the very field they are being criticised for being poor in.

    Imagine 2 scenarios;

Where you "advise" your son "One thing I noticed" and he listens intently and takes it on board trying to please.

Where you "advise" the player and he says "alright Grandad WTF would you know about being a professional sportsman."

In that case a manager should never shout at a player from the touchline for not working hard and/or tracking back for example?

I don't like booing. Never have, never will. I do completely understand why people are frustrated, and as previously stated, I'd lose no sleep if over the summer we changed direction.

I have no problem with people complaining or voicing a negative view here, but I think at a game our 'job' is more to support and encourage, rather than berate. The players are human, and if you think the likes of Forster are going to play better, want to stay at the club etc by being booed, then I respectfully disagree. The manager's job (and teammates) is to bollock a player if they're underperforming. As Fran says, the only time I'd get pissed off at a game in that way was if a player was obviously just not trying. That's unacceptable.

What properly gets my goat is the types who have made a decision that someone is crap before even getting to the stadium (take Maya as a perfect example, but equally Sofiane or Fraser). They'll then spend the whole game berating the tiniest thing. Those people need to take their heads out of the sand, if anyone does.

Manager's of children or adults? If the latter in a football stadium maybe he should have the tannoy mic so that player's can hear his instruction?

Some people think that because they paid money it entitles them to call a complete stranger all the names under the sun when they are just doing their job. No professional footballer goes onto a pitch wanting to play poorly and anyone can have a bad day at the office.
I stlll say the the critcism they are getting at this time is out of all perspective, things are really not THAT bad and certainly not at the level of the Branfoot days.

I don't boo either I'm not saying I would but different people voice their frustration or disappointment in different ways and while I might decide not to go to the next game a lot of people who boo still go every week.

I agree on those with preconceived ideas. However I think most people were behind Fraser when he came and have gradually moved to the conclusion he isn;t as good as good defences made him look, and Sofiane has only shone in minute moment like Gaston. This being the Gaston that we were almost all behind when he came but grew increasingly frsutrated with.

Maya has always been seen as a backup by most even by those that are criticising those who boo. Some people will have pre-conceptions and there are others that have built an opinion where single instances are then amplified to the point that they don;t see the positives.

We aren't talking about that though. I would bet the vast majority of those who boo are regular attendees if not season ticket holders rather than those that come occasionally.

I agree that people shouldn;t be calling anyone all the names under the sun and you can criticise them for that however that doesn;t mean they shouldn;t voice their concerns or opinions here or at the game.

I don;t think anyone is saying it is at Branfoot levels.

And most people's complaints are about Puel's style rather than the players themselves. Problem being that in many cases they voice their disapproval through criticising players until it gets to a "Wenger out" scenario where the fans are directly singling out the manager.

When fans boo the team off the pitch are they being critical of the players as individuals or of the team and therefore the man who has spent all week detailing how they will play at the weekend?

I seem to remember quite a few boos when certain players are subbed or even at who might replace them. That is more booing the manager's decision.

Adults. Why would you deliberately misinterpret what i said? I clearly meant shouting as in a tongue lashing/telling off, not because of the volume required..
