*IF* we can sign Mitchell Dijks then we should do. Not only is he an attacking threat with good delivery hes also a good addition to the squad physically. At 24 he could be with us for a significant amount of time moving forwards and I think could do a job for us *IF* we get promoted next season. We really do need to start thinking further ahead with our transfers than we have done in recent seasons. We know he can perform at Championship level and I think he could step up again if needed. I know we can't be splashing the cash around but the quoted 4m Euro fee seems very reasonable when we know what we are going to be getting for that - low risk!
Totally agree. I know money is going to be tight but as nemo says, everyone at the club has seen what he can do so has assurances about how much 'bang for their buck' there will be. He seems a popular squad memer and the crowd certainly took to him during his loan spell here. With only Toffolo contracted as a genuine LB, it ticks a very big box that's currently sitting in the 'pending' tray waiting to be ticked
You could argue that if we get in a Head Coach whom is prepared to play and develop the youth players we have, then we only really need to sign a LB (Dijks) and a very good left sided CB. With Toffolo as back up to Dijks at LB, Efete and Godfrey as back up to Klose and *New signing* at centre back and Martin to back up Pinto at RB.
We don't have to sell anyone unless we want to buy another player - like Dijks for £4m euros, according to SW. We could probably sign Adeyemi or someone else on a free without selling, but we're clearly working on a tight budget. At 25, Adeyemi would be behind Howson and Dorrans (if he stays), but he is far more experienced than Thompson, especially in the Championship, but it'd be good competition. Godfrey could also be added to that list, but I agree that our priority is the defense, CB and LB in particular. Martin is useful cover for RB, CB and even LB if necessary but the new left-sided CB is a huge priority.
New possibility is DM Kevin Stewart on loan from Liverpool. Has some credibility in that SW used to be at Liverpool. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Stewart_(footballer) Could be a good shout, but at least another speculation to ponder!
I thought these guys were here! Turns out to be another rumour. So, I guess our recruitment team is not hard at work. http://www.edp24.co.uk/sport/norwic...on-norwich-city-s-recruitment-plans-1-5011288
I personally couldn't give a monkeys about 'interesting'. As long as they're effective in their roles and affordable, bring it on
I thought they were as well. SW is ruthless, certainly but he does take his time as well. One of the consolations of not making the play-offs was that we could get on with recruitment straight away. Stewart would be a loan deal if it happened, but there are a lot of other teams rumoured to be interested.
Doesnt mean anything really but always like to watch any youtube videos of potential signings. I have heard good things about the lad but his video makes him look pants lol. Giving the ball away, passes that put his team mates under pressure. As i say, obviously the video doesn't show all of the lad and he is highly rated so fingers crossed, if we get him, he is better than the video suggests!
Looking further into Stewart, he seems to be a bit of a strange case. Liverpool signed him 3 years ago on a free transfer from Spurs. Now 23, though he's made 11 appearances for Liverpool as an occasional sub or in cup games, he's been out on 4 loans to leagues one and two where he's only played a total of 20 games over 3 years. He has no Championship experience, and it's hard to see why he'd be interesting PL teams. I suspect it could be his agent trying to drum up a better loan for him. Here's his Wiki page: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Stewart_(footballer) I'm not convinced that he'd be a better bet than Adeyemi. who has played 107 Championship games since he left us.
I imagine that Dijks salary at Ajax would be modest. He was hardly a star player and salaries are somewhat lower in Holland than here. So long as he is reasonable I can see no reason that an agreement cannot be reached. Just a matter then of agreeing the price, said to be E4m. (no euros sign).
According to SW in the Pink'un interview, we'd have to sell a player before we could pay the 4m euros, which I find strange considering the salaries saved on the 7 players released.
I think SW has clearly indicated that next seasons squad is going to be significantly small. I'm not convinced that those that have already gone will be replaced.
Also in the article I read, he didn't say we'd have to sell someone to pay for Dijks, he said we would have to "Trim our cloth elsewhere!"
Yeah, I see what you mean. Looking at the "highlight reel" bedfordcanary put up, he's very "raw" for a 23-year-old Everton player.
