Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford won't consider Newcastle offer by Paul Vegas11 hours ago< 500 READS SHARE THE LOVE image: Sunderland goalkeeper Jordan Pickford is unlikely to be tempted by a move to Newcastle United this summer. Pickford has been linked with the Toon. But last month, he told Sky Sports he would never follow former team-mate Jack Colback in crossing the Tyne-Wear divide. “Jack's playing on the other side of the water these days unfortunately," said Pickford. “I would never do that. “I couldn't do it myself. I would never go to Newcastle. [Leaving Sunderland] is not something I've looked at yet and it's not something I want to look at either." Old news this. Said it before the Man U match in a sky feature interview. Surely we all knew he'd never consider it anyway.
I think some journos are having just another laugh at our current situation. He has time on his side, stay with us until a real team comes for him.
If you know nothing about Pickford it's not entirely moronic to suggest it. It is a position we'd want to strengthen, we may (no idea what our budget is going to be) sanction a £20m+ on young English player and he would get first team Premiership football without having to move house. However, he can get into half the teams in the league and would surely pick a stronger prospect where he doesn't have to go to his rivals. I hope he stays with you guys this year, he'll develop fine in the Championship for a year or two and I just don't see him getting into the England team just yet anyway. Soon but not just yet.
As you say I assumed it was just journos stirring the pot for fun and making up stories. It'll only be the top sides who will be happy to spend as much on a keeper as it would take to sign Jordan anyway. I'd rather we handled our money problem by holding on to our assets and cutting out all the rubbish, which there's a lot of, so I'd rather he stayed with us. Forever ideally but at least for the next season.
You never know, could also be his agent who is stirring up things with a view of engineering a move away so he fattens his bank account in the process.
I'll work on that: Stay where he is happy and get us back then pick one of the elite clubs who will need him in a few years, or go to a recently promoted club that needs more signings than a goalie to survive easily next season.
The mags have still got that Dutch keeper (can't remember his name) They loaned him out when they went down
Tim Krul is a decent shot stopper but he doesn't command his box well and his distribution is poor and he can't deal with high balls coming into the box particularly well despite having the arms of a basketball player. I'd sell him on.
When we first got Krul he played in a couple of European games (that a competition where to travel to continental Europe to play teams from other leagues) when still in his teens (iirc). He held himself well and looked a real prospect. He has never pushed on in any manner and once a few years pass and you still have terrible distribution it's clear you aren't going to learn. He's our 3rd choice keeper in my eyes and yet oddly our most valuable so definitely sell!!!
