We all have opinions on LJ as a manager. Most (including me) think he should not have been appointed in the first place and should have gone weeks ago. However, we are where we are - so: With 2 games to go, given current form - and past form: should we: - sack LJ now and get someone else in? - stick with LJ and review 8 weeks into next season? The point of this thread is to galvanise both 'lovers' and 'haters' together - what is best for our club that we all love?
I have added this poll to simplify the question without bcfcredandwhite's knowledge any objection from him and I'll close it upon his wishes..
Happy with the poll Wiz - thanks mate - I posted this from my iPhone. Interesting that nobody has commented yet - maybe people want to reserve the right to criticise whatever happens?
I would stick with him for the first dozen games of the season (subject to performances ( i.e getting outplayed or thrashed). Reasons are, he should know by now what the championship is all about, he should now be able to draft in players suitable to compete. I believe he's keen, ambitious and driven to do well. There is no manager out there (available) that springs to mind that fills me with confidence on doing a better job.. I'm often accused of talking bollocks, but I'm happy!!
The trouble I have with this is, I don't believe he will ever achieve anything here as a manager, however I am aware that he is not going to be sacked now and replaced. My fear is we will be in this same position next year, if not worse with him in charge. 8 games in will remove a transfer window that he will probably spend money in and we may well end up with players no better than what we had (again!) The only thing I can hope is that the board are proactive and begin to think about lining up our next manager now, albeit discreetly. My bet is they will stumble along till next time! I hope my prediction is wrong, they usually are. I had us as dead certs to be relegated a month ago.
I don't trust his knowledge, quality, experience, personality and he couldn't lead a marching band, I'm just done with the backstabber, just my own opinion.
He should have gone at, or before Xmas. Somehow he's now got us to a position where we appear to be almost mathematically safe. So come the end of the Season let's get rid of him and spend the Summer (or before) getting a proper Manager in.
I think it a bit hypothetical- Cant see anything else other than LJ being in charge next season and will be given at least until Christmas I reckon, he has had a charmed life but given the position at present, cant see that any action would be taken
It's all down to Lansdown's love affair with Lee plus a little slice of arrogance, but very little common sense. The beatings will continue until morale improves.
I respect your sentiments Wiz - and share your opinion that LJ isn't the right man for us - your criticism of his management qualities have some weight - but why the 'backstabber' label? Johnson is guilty of being a poor manager. Surely that's all? It's Lansdown who is to blame, not LJ - for employing him, then sticking with him. LJ didn't hire himself!!
How do you know? For all we know Pembo might of been a bad attitude around the players. After all didn't he come out and virtually say that he's got to help out LJ, as he seemed stuck etc. (If I remember rightly LJ got criticised for that comment as well) If we had insider information then maybe I could say he was backstabbing Pembo. And that's with me wanting Pembo to have the job in the first place and taking over from LJ in December. However since Pembo has gone I think it's only two games we've lost since then. So for all we mere mortals know is perhaps LJ was correct in his decision. Can't believe I'm defending someone I never wanted.
I will stick with LJ for a dozen games into the new season, young coach learning his trade in a massively difficult league, a lot of young players with potential, like OneFor cannot see much out there as a replacement, so come on the LJ out posters who would you replace him with.
ROD, it doesn't matter who knows, the guy admits his involvement here, Johnson's failures are far bigger than any Pemberton ever made yet he is still in work, the guy is a little non- entity but that is just my opinion, it's of no consequence to anyone but I was asked the question. 'Johnson commented on Pemberton's exit after the Norwich game, saying: "I cannot say too much. But it was a club decision involving myself and the board.' https://www.sportinglife.com/football/news/lansdown-explains-decision/42319 http://www.bristolpost.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/john-pemberton-removal-lee-johnsons-8013
For me it is just wasting a chance to move forward next season if we keep him. I don't see anything in him which suggests he is worth persevering with. If he stays until nov-dec then realistically that is next season written off. A new manager now would have chance to assess the squad and bring in his own players. By letting LJ do that (again) we are wasting time and money.
Johnson didn't want him, the board sacked him, McAllister stepped up, results improved, did the right thing, sorry John that's football.
I had a customer in today a season ticket holder with two kids going down the gate. At present he has been going down on his own.The kids are not interested under Johnson. And more disturbing they are not renewing next season. So please happy clappers there will be a lot more of them out there. SL is to blame, sticking with his young prodigy. Oh and by the way Pardew or Pearson would have been cracking appointments,if Lansdown was serious about moving on. Certainly would have shown intent.
Not exactly inundated with offers are they....can't be that good mate!! I heard reports (On Talk Sport) that Palace were dreadfully unfit under Pardew.
If you mean someone like me, who will give LJ a dozen games into the knew season as being a happy clapper, a happy clapper I will be.
