Plus, ability wise, Barton isn't fit to polish Adel's boots.

Once a twat always a twat.

There have been few players with the technical ability of Adel. But there aren't very many either with the motor and drive on the pitch that Barton has. As a Captain I agree with Beth, I think Ned is good because he seems a good bloke who commands respect from all the players. While Barton provides drive on the pitch which we would have good use of still today, I think he is probably too divisive a person to be the best representative for all the players, the Club Captain needs to be.

After the first line all I got was "me me me me me me me blah blah blah me me me me" Up yours Barton, enjoy the odd appearance on MOTD, you're done.

I'd have Joey back in as captain today. Remember he skippered Newcastle, QPR and Burnley out of the Championship. No mean feat.

Yes, he's a bit of a bomb scare; but that's true of so many other players that are talented.

You take away the unpredictability and you're left with something that's frankly prosaic. It's the same in every sport, in business and politics.

    That's what we pay for.

Same with Adel. I'd have him back tomorrow. We love a maverick at QPR.

I've always held the view that what goes around, comes around. Joey put himself in the hole and eventually, the hole swallowed him up.

I would give him a Lifetime Achievement Award for being a career diickhead. I pity his children.

It may be time to place some facts about football betting.

    1) It is against the rules to have a bet on any football match in the world if you are a player, official or helper at any club down to & including the tenth tier of English football. This means that if you sell the golden goal tickets as a favour for a club playing in the second level of the Combined Couties League you can't place a football bet.

    2) The size of the bet is irrelevant.

    3) The outcome of the bet is irrelevant.

    4) Every player, offical or helper is informed of this rule when theu join a club, as it is part of the Due Diligance that covers the club.

    5) The type of bet that has been laid will be regarded for seriousness if you are found guilty of the offence. The worst being betting on your own club & for matches in the division your club plays in.

Now IMO, Mr. Barton knew all of this & chose to ignore it. Many non league players would sugest that an eighteen month suspension is light compared to what they have been given.

This is his life. All rules apply to everbody apart from Joseph Barton. Isn't it strange that his gambling addiction has only come to light, or been admitted to, after he was charged by the FA?

Two questions ... How did they find out that he was betting? Why didn't he get his missus or a mate to place the bets?

    1) I believe 9's that the FA were informed by a whistleblower employed (or was) by the betting company that he had an account with.

    2) The only possible answer to this is that his brain wasn't functioning! Personally, I don't understand how anyone is caught out with football betting. It must be easy to have someone place the bets for you.

Can't they just ban him for life already? They should have done that when he stubbed a cigarette out on a younger players' eye years ago...

Apologies, I missed the main thread for some reason *, and was overcome by a strong urge to share my deep joy.

Now having read some of his Ballad of Burnley Gaol as posted by Mr Nines, I am wondering why he left his blistering condemnation of the hypocrisy of the football authorities until after he was caught, rather than when he was in the midst of his epic battle against addiction? And why the **** he had to bet on football when there are plenty of alternatives? It could be that he's just a twat.

    * it's not showing on my screen for some reason. If I wasn't such an open, trusting bloke I'd suspect state censorship.........

I feel really sorry for him. After all, there he is on his Jack Jones with all that spare time and £60k a week burning a hole in his pocket, what better way to while away the hours than giving a large portion of his wedge to the bookies? And then getting caught. He has pleaded that it is an addiction and why were the FA not trying to help him? Well, only he can help himself and he's now got 18 months to get help and kick his habit, perhaps having no income may concentrate his mind, until his next abberation...
