According to Sky, it involves about 5 million and is related to transfers....with money being paid in a manner such as to circumvent tax/NI payments. In other words, people were being paid more than was being disclosed. Isn't this similar to the problems at Rangers?

Barton has complained that the sentence is too severe (meaning his career is effectively finished) and he is being punished for being high profile. Not unusual for repeat offenders to be treated more harshly....it's hardly the first wrong thing he has done. He is charged for over a thousand bets placed over several years....admittedly not match fixing, but he knew football betting was wrong. He uses gambling addiction as part of his excuse, but no one is saying he can't bet....just not on football. How hard is that to comprehend.

I know I bang on about this, but if a player failed a drugs test they would be provisionally suspended straight away, even if they wanted to plead some mitigation. Barton admitted the charges back in January and was inevitably going to receive a year plus ban, but the FA let him finish the season for free. What I'm saying is, Burnley owe us a point.

So if Chelsea are found guilty of this tax evasion lark and get demoted like Swindon... will 8th place get us Europe? <laugh><cheers>

Can't believe Moyes has been charged <doh>

This tax business could be interesting, Swindon is the precedent...

Clearly not even slightly intelligent if he gets caught betting on 1000 games. There is a very simple way round this that I'm sure a lot of footballers abuse, ask a mate to place the bets for you. Barton probably doesn't have any mates so that may have been a bit of a stumbling block.

Not condoning it, but gambling is a addiction, he needed to add it to his list and seek help sooner. He is actually very intelligent, but has a destructive personality. If he is to get an 18month career ending ban, then they should give us our point back.

I'm listening to the Sunderland version of Whispering Dave, it's not pretty.

Wouldn't the Sunderland version of Whispering Dave sound very similar to whispering Dave? Both being native NE lads?

Undoubtedly, he is intelligent. I've heard his views on various subjects and his thought processes, and he's not an idiot. He just happens to have a side to him that thinks he knows better than the FA. So he has a misplaced arrogance as well. That doesn't help his cause at all.

    Ironically he's from Southampton.

No, not really, yeah you're probably right, but with even more "get it up to the big man" etc.

Arsenal 0-0 Leicester: Come on Leicester. Let's keep this 0-0 [tbf, I wouldn't begrudge them a win]

Crystal Palace 0-0 Spurs: Another draw would be very nice. 1] Because I don't want Palace to win, and 2] I want to piss off Spurs.

Boro 1-0 Sunderland: Whatever.! Both are going down anyway.

Cue complete change in each score.

EDIT: There you go, f****** Arsenal score.
