Pretty sure that echoes an awful lot of what you lot said about your team last year as you didn't expect the owner to spend. Love your optimism - sounds much like ours at the end of last season when we had everything we needed to make things work... Then the FA got involved and screwed us for £3m! Didn't you effectively sack a better manager than Benitez (i.e. the one that has just about won Brighton the league spending a fraction of the amount it cost Benitez)?
Good point about Hughton, Marcus. I'm pleased he's done well, as he didn't deserve what he got from NUFC. Certainly not to be replaced by Pardew. Pity they're up in one way, as I haven't been to the new Brighton stadium yet and it's only about 40 miles from me...
don't think your find many toon fans who were happy with the way Hughton was treated at the end of his tenure. Also pretty sure Brighton's owner has spent around £200m since purchasing the club all in all, proper shoe string budget. I also believe Brighton have more debt than anyone else in the championship At the end of the day Newcastle spend within their means. We've had 1.1m punters through the door, made £31m profit in transfer dealings over the last year, lowered our wage bill significantly and got promoted at the first time of trying. I'd be surprised if you mackems got over 500,000 fans through the gates next year and even if you did, none of em would stay the 90 mins
please log in to view this image Just gonna leave some facts here for you. If you look, Brightons debt has increased and is expected to increase further. The TV money will help obviously, but theur turnover is lower than their wages, that's a massive no no. http://swissramble.blogspot.co.uk/search/label/Brighton and Hove Albion Full report for some bed time reading, but I reckon Brighton are going straight back down next year and the bookies would agree with me
Newcastle fan in peace... I'm looking to start a business for textile fabric EPL badge loopaper. Any of you looking to sell the part of your shirts that have a the premier league badge on? I was just thinking since they won't ever again be needed, I could help you all take the badge off your hands..or arms, so to speak. Edit: attn: as I've been inundated with emails, I don't want your shirts, I just want the badges. Please use scissors cutting not your teeth! Your mum might have one in her kitchen...
Prior to this season I wouldn't have had a clue but there's quite a few teams in the league who are spending well above their means. It's the reason why it is humorous when people go on about how much we spent. Liverpool paid £25m for Wijnaldum and Tottenham paid us £30m+ for Sissoko, we also got decent money for Townsend, Janmaat and loan fees for Krul, Cabella, Thauvin, De Jong, Riviere, etc. In total they were much, much more than what we spent but we're Newcastle so it doesn't matter - we bought the league and it is an apparently established fact.
We used to buy the league every other season until Abramovic come and actually bought the league then City actually-actually bought the league. Jack Walker also bought the league. Only Leicester have won it without buying it.
Massive respect for Ferguson for building Man Utd up into a title-winning team and then reinvesting for even more success.
to be fair Leicester bought Vardy Mahrez and Kante to win the league. They also paid Ranieri to manage them and he managed them to the league title, so technically Leicester bought the league too.
Buying the league was his greatest strength. It's something I've deal with for a while from oppo fans, but when the tables are turned they don't care as much, City in particular. I'm sure SAFC fans will be happy to buy the league next season if it gets them back to where they belong (imo).
Belong? I think any team that fails to sell their stadium out or fails to keep the stadium full up to the 90th minute doesn't deserve to be in the PL. Sunderland are a pointless club, low aspirations, happy with mediocrity, just to survive, what's the point of that. they have no players to sell. they have no means of making any money and as we've seen the championship is getting very competitive, Villa spending 70m, other teams will be spending more and more to achieve that PL golden ticket please log in to view this image Defoe's clause allows him to leave on a free and the only real asset with any financial value is Pickford, but with your current financial problems it becomes a case of getting what ever you can for him to stay afloat. please log in to view this image Millions upon millions of ££ lost every year since 2006, it's no way to run a football club. It's just a matter of time before it completely falls apart.
I'm not bothered in the slightest that the black and white horse punching twats are coming up and we are going down..
You been on the SAFC board before the promotion BTW? I can't seem to recall your critique of our club before, although that may well just be me (I don't live on here)
so will championship cheesy chips be cheaper then ..just a thought .. might put a dent in the profits
