Funny programme on BBC3 tonight. England's worst eleven. Managed by city legend Steve McClaren, some interesting names. Worth a watch on I player if you're bored for half an hour.
Been some right donkeys picked over the years, I loved to hate Tony Adams when I was a kid, remember Ruud Gullit and Holland laughing at him in the 1988 Euro Champs
I thought it was a bit harsh to include Terry in that squad. Admittedly I came in after his section, but he's hardly been a poor player. Unable to abstain from team mates' wives, but hardly poor. There must have been a worse CB than him. To me the team was picked more on the basis of who people get huffy about on messageboards. When they picked the manager, they even admitted that the worst was Keegan - but they wanted the opportunity to stick it to McClaren.
The show was a repeat. The initial showing came before the World Cup when John Terry was hated by everyone. As said before, the producers of that show just piced easy targets, e.g. John Terry, Steve Mac, Joey Barton. It was a complete joke when they tried ripping into Crouch, yet at the bottom of the screen it said 17 goals in 34 games. Found it strange that the likes of Andy Cole (1 goal in 15) and really terrible players such as Jeffers and Nugent didn't get a mention..
--------------------Peter Bonetti---------------------- Warren Barton---Keith Curle---John Terry---Phil Neville Kieron Dyer--Joey Barton--Carlton Palmer--Steve Hodge -----------Michael Ricketts--John Fashanu------------- Manager:Steve McClaren
Some seriously bad choices in there, obviously some for notoriety only. Terry and Barton no way. They probably darent put Geoff Thomas in as he has cancer. Steve Hodge played excellently in the 86 World Cup so thats crap too. Keiron Dyer isnt sh1t either just injury prone. Or Phil Neville.
yeah said last night while watching it the steve hodge choice was wrong, usual **** tv by people who know **** all;]
Has he? Oh well fuk him he is in. Wasnt there an Andy Gray who played as well around that time? Another one of Graham's picks. If you want hero to donkey then surely Des Walker had the furthest fall from grace i have ever seen.
Was Heskey in it? Others Dennis Wise, Scott Carson (maybe i'm being too harsh on him, but his blunders were horrific to watch). Some absolute rubbish in there now and all. The Euro 2000 squad was pretty poor. Remember us going 2-0 up against Portugal then losing 3-2 and then the crap defeat to Romania when we needed them to put in a performance. The only decent thing about that tournament was we beat the Germans, but they were equally as bad as we were back then.
