Oh absolutely, point taken. But the same could be said if you got another striker in and both Connolly and Lambert were out. That's hardly any less of a likelihood than having Lambert out alone. But just where do you stop..? Plus, you can only have 11 blokes on the field of play at any one time. Someone has to be disappointed and most players don't like being small fish in big ponds. Plus, this is slightly dodgy moment, in terms of Saints strikers. What I'm saying is, that after the next striker is brought in, as inevitably there will be at some point, [if not soon, then in the mid-season window, or even next] then someone will make way and leave the club. Obviously, it isn't going to be Connolly or Lambert. Closer to the edge is Forte, and I think it has to be said, Barnard. especially if his court case goes against him. Recognising that I'm being rather insensitive to Barnard, but frankly, if he is found guilty, that's like having a player out injured, mid/long term. The other thing worth considering is the quality of the squad. Do Saints buy a player who is complimentary to the rest of the strikers, or do they buy a player who is going to be comfortable in the Premiership..? As there are effectively only three chances of buying a Premiership class striker in this campaign, if Saints are promoted, should they be looking to start the step up in quality of the players now or later..? Tricky, I think.
Echoing most people's thoughts feel we do purely because we cant rely on Connolly staying fit and not sure Barnard will be up to it.
What is it with Saints fans writing players off before they have even played?, first it was Deano, then Seaborne and now Barney. Deano has been dominant in the middle and Seaborne played well today by all accounts, lets wait and see if Barney will be ok, my guess is that he will.
Lambert is pivitol to the way we play and is truly key he is as strong as a brick ****house but more importantly subtle in his team play when we bought him we got much more than we could imagine this guy plays for the team excepting free kicks and pens. Guly has been with us a while and still cant make my mind up some weeks like him some weeks dont.Connelly is great but will be rested and nursed through the season by our astute gaffer. Barneys great but we will have to see how he goes in the champ so for me iwould go with what we have till Jan then see but must confess a injury to Ricky would worry me big time
I'm not writing Barney off in the slightest. I think you're overreacting slightly. Personally, I don't like to make predictions so early into a new season, let alone a new division. But people do, and so I'll get involved in the conversation sometimes. All I suggested, from this point of reference, is that the one striker who may make way eventually make way is Barnard, totally due to his performances since he's been at Saints, which have been fine, and much more importantly and crucially, whether he finds himself on the wrong side of the law in a few weeks time. But I certainly am not writing the lad off. Far from it. In fact, I never write players off. For example, I still hope that Joseph Mills can prove useful to Saints in the long run. Now there's loyalty.
Barnard must be cursing his injury. He's now looking to displace a player in a winning side and if we sign another striker...
Barnard might be ok for Championship but have doubts about that but should we go up is def not premiership quality so if opportunity to get a young pacey CF then get him in now to bed him in to team and our style of play
Barnard hasn't suddenly become a bad striker. Feel for him that he's missed the first few games. Suspect he will be one of Nigel's impact players rather than a starter. He will find it hard to displace Connolly at the moment. If Connolly get's injured (I just mean a run of the mill injury, I don't subscribe to the idea that serious injury is inevitable) then he's an able replacement.
Jay Rod please!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 6ft+ centre forward both to push Rickie and replace if his form drops off or gets injured - none of our existing forwards can do the job he does at the moment
