    This!

Barton raises his hands and he is a thug.
Barton does down to someone who raises his hands and he's a diver.

But the ref gave a straight red.

Yes, because refs can let the play go on and then yellow someone for an earlier incident.

I personally didnt see barton do anything wrong.. gervinho seems very temperamental.. actions like that are going to cost arsenal the minuscule chancethey have of the league... shame on them.. they never learn, typical arsenal

Watch from about 2:08, Barton pulls him up a bit (which he still probably should not of done) but Gervinho leaps to his feet and shoves Barton. Gervinho instigated it by reacting furiously to Barton.

raising your hand to another player is a sending off offence.

No he is going to miss three game for violent conduct. That is a straight red. You can't add up two different things and give someone a straight red. He was never booked for the dive. It was for the slap.

Yes you can, look at Diaby, 2 pushes, clearly indicated by the ref, gave a straight red for a potentially yellow card incident.

That was the same phase of play. Gervinho got a straight red for the slap. You can't add up two different things and give the guy a straight red, which means VILOLENT CONDUT. The red was clearly for the slap.

Of course it's going down as violent conduct, because that was the last offence he did before getting sent off <doh> You can add up 2 different things and get a straight red, if that wasn't the case then it wouldn't of happened to Diaby and a few other reds in the leagues last season.

You can't add up to different things and give a straight red. A dive and the slap are two different things. One carrys more weight then the other. The dive is only a yellow but the slap can be seen as violent conduct. The ref never booked him for the dive and never showed a yellow to Gervinho.

Barton didn't dive, he over-reacted. Gervinho dived.

As much as I dont condone any handbags on the pitch, I thought it was great to see Tiote and Cabaye in particular getting stuck in to stand up for Barton, who says we've lost team spirit?
