Don't get me wrong - the midfield is not perfect. But our defenders are terrible. Our best defender is Matip, who is inconsistent at best.
If with one pass, the opposition can create a situation whereby it has 3 fast attackers on 2 slower defenders (and Lucas ), we will always concede. Balance is the problem Imo. In terms of defending set pieces, our defending (not just defenders) is, as you point out, terrible. . However, this I put down mostly to coaching I'm afraid. Defending set pieces as a team needs organisation and we are clearly not that
Our issues are A) all the players are soft. Matip is a sweeper and passer. If you put a ball down on top of him and attack him then despite his height he soesnt attack it for me. Watch long throws today... he will be attacked. B) pace is indeed an issue C) height is a huge issue. Simply put we are trying to mix a zonal line on the 6 yard line with man marki g and blocking further out. If anyone breaks that block they are into space or charging down on stationary players. It is VERY hard to conpete aerially when someone has a run on you. Simply put we dont have enough guys to compete aerially and you then see west brom can deliver to most areas and get a head on the ball. Coutinho. Wijnaldum. Lallana. Firmino. Mane. Clyne... even milner... that leaves can/henderson and 2 cbs with any height so thats why we go zonal In other words all thats needed is a quality delivery.
It's more than this imo. All of your points are valid but we also do not attack second balls. Our clearances/decision making at set pieces leave a lot to be desired. in short the , we don't have a clue or personnel to defend set pieces. Tomorrow will be interesting
Yes you are right. We dont really smash that second ball or look like we expect one to fall. Again the 3/4 players i listed try to head it and the rest especially player like clyne dont seem ti ever react
And Klopp was a defender read an article recently showing Klopp's stats regarding defending in Germany..... they've never been overly great.
He won the league in The two seasons where he conceded the least goals in his career. I think before we judge the system and set up, we badly need to upgrade the defenders. Far too many individual errors.
Clyne is unveliably poor in the air and always seems to lose his runner. His 1v1 defending is very good though.
I think you're right. He's clearly shown that he know what needs to be done so it's about giving him the money to buy players to replicate that.
He is a midget too. Yoyd think all his focus woyld br on putting guys off but no. He does just let them go.
Liverpool, Southampton and Bournemouth are continuing to monitor highly-rated Nigerian forward Henry Onyekuru. The Premier League trio have been among clubs to send scouts to watch the 19-year-old in recent weeks playing for Belgian side Eupen. Borussia Monchengladbach and Brugge have expressed interest in the exciting teenager, who tried and failed to push through a move to Celtic in January, however, he is aware of increasing interest from Premier League sides. Onyekuru is predominantly a left winger but can play as a striker and on the right. He has scored 15 goals this season including three in his last two games. The striker grabbed two in Eupen’s 2-2 draw with Roeselare before opening the scoring in a 2-0 win over Royal Excel Mouscron seven days later. Celtic had offered £1million in January and Eupen demanded £4m. Onyekuru went AWOL and threatened to go on strike but ultimately resolved his differences with the club. They will now agree to sell this summer but are looking for £6.8m owing to his form and the heightened interest. Arsenal, Chelsea and Sevilla have also watched him this season. lol I am keen! At the right price.. Still a young player, lot of talent and potential. Hard working as well.
IMO sakho isn't really the answer anyway.... he's positionally suspect. I personally think klopp will never touch him anyway.. unless he forgives i dunno
well in todays market god knows what is a realistic price but i would hope lower than that as his contract is running down. Well yes he scores its just not that often not convinced myself that he brings much to the team 125 PL appearances Goals 9 Assists 12
