Was in Whitby a couple of days ago, went to Trenchers for fish and chips, even told you what trawler the fish they were using was landed on and supplier and variety of spuds the chips were made from. Excellent nosh. Alas no patties.
First taken there with my sister by mum in the late 40's. Mum loved halibut which I tasted for the first time but preferred other fish. Our local fish shop never offered halibut- instead had cod/haddock and from time to time plaice and skate. Patties too but no scraps sold. These were dumped into used cardboard dripping boxes presumably to be used elsewhere.
Back on my wife's old stomping ground in the Lake District in 2010, classic Cumberland sausage and gammon steaks were repeatedly consumed during our weeks stay. Cumberland sausage is sold in our local supermarket.
It has been known for me to order a battered sausage whilst waiting The Catch in North Cave is actually not bad at all. Behind the White Hart Pub.
I order a battered sausage to eat alongside my fish, chips, scraps and beans. Put that in your pipes and smoke it, losers. Also, anyone who has gravy or curry sauce on fish and chips is ****ing demented. FACT.
I assumed everyone had fish, chips, mushy peas and a can of dandelion burdock. Salt and vinegar to taste and a Pattie while you wait. This is the only acceptable order.
I'm off to Nashes in Leeds today for mine. The sit down meal version they do is ok. Obviously can't compare to our proper stuff.
Personally, I give vinegar a miss, I prefer it without. A bit of tartar is in order if I'm 'sitting in'.
'Cooked to order'? What do you ask for - 'can you dip it in batter and sink it in that hot oil until it's cooked?'
Dolphins are ****ing brutal ****ers, they commit gang rape. They're up there will squirrels as the animal with the best PR campaign.
