I know a number of you guys travel and or live outside the UK. How do you get bets on? Any of you use a VPN? Do the gambling sites block you these days? Which sites can you use and which stop you?

    Thanks for any help.

Although I don't bet stick I have found that access to betting sites from France is not allowed. Whether this applies to Spain, Germany etc I'm not sure. I haven't tried a VPN but one that seems highly rated for mobiles and technical support is Express VPN; it is restricted to 3 simultaneous users. There are plenty of reviews on the web though showing clearly what they cover and don't cover. They aren't cheap ($8.32/£6.70pm)

There is a simple on called Hola mate. Works a dream on a laptop/macbook/desktop jus install it and set it to the UK flag an you're away. Dont know if it works on the dog and bone though of you bet using that. I was fine punting in Dubai with 365 to be fair without even needing one but then blocked in Prague of all places for some reason so god knows what flags it up.

I had issues in past years trying to use it in Spain and also when I was in America which wasn't surprising. But it worked without any issues when in Prague during Cheltenham so I'm not sure if the rules have changed regarding this or Czech Republic is exempt from this.

When i went to Barcelona last year, Hills and Ladcrooks were both blocked but PP worked fine.
No idea of the method to this but all seems a bit trial and error!

The BBC's iPlayer, as an example, seems to spot Hola from a mile off. Used to work for me, but no more. Find Hola very good for browsing though. A lot of the 'direct' TV channels seem to be on to them, however?

Yes Barney. The lustre of working for a living is losing its appeal and to a minor degree the atmosphere of Britain these days doesn't lend me to want to spend my retirement years here. I only hope Brexit doesn't **** it all up for me!

    Chaps,

My advice is to not use Hola. It is a peer to peer network that routes your data through other peoples network to appear as if you're in their location.

I've successfully used VPNs all over the world to access bookmakers accounts in the UK. There are many VPN providers and depending on your specific circumstances, there will almost certainly be one or more that suit your needs. There are VPN apps available for all mobile phones and as well as desktop computers.

A quick google search on best VPN providers will give you the latest and greatest, I use PureVPN which works great on phones, tablets and desktop computers. Their premium account allows something like 6 seperate devices at any one time.

Apologies for after timing, coming late to this thread as I do...

On The Bridle is absolutely right about Hola. You should definitely not use it if you are trying to do financial transactions that require bank details or account details because anybody could be “listening in” as it is a routing mechanism to get around actual locations and not necessarily secured.

At least a VPN will give you some level of security, assuming that you select one that uses the appropriate tunnelling protocols and data encryption. The problem is that some sites may block VPN access because it is commonly used to circumvent geographic restrictions.

Folks having trouble accessing Hills or Ladbrokes when in Spain should bear in mind that their offshore gambling operations are registered in Gibraltar.
