BBC's take was that generally Saints were in control for most of the match, but had to withstand 10 minutes of intense pressure at the end. Par for the course for an Away match, I would say. Besides, doesn't every time a keeper makes a save, he saves the team.?
Strikers are hard to find and expensive,,,,clear outs depend on who we can get. I think JRod will go....partly because I think he will choose to as he needs games and looks less than fully gruntled....but Shane may be kept as his pace can be a not so secret weapon.
A message for my fellow golfing associates who were talking to me and taking the Micky yesterday. ( See my post in Saints v Crystal Palace) So you know a lot about football and did not have the faith to believe they had another away win in them?. Today's result West Brom 0 Southampton 1. Exactly the result my fellow old codger predicted. Hard fought yes, that defence you so crucified to a man stood up for themselves, especially Forster. See you Monday and I will be making a point that we old codgers are not so bloody clueless after all.
Agree with this. JayRod has got to go and find his level again, while he's still young enough. He's certainly not of consistently high enough quality for Saints these days. As for Long, yes, he probably should go, but I agree with Fran that he's got just enough of a special skill in him to stay. Plus he works and works until he drops. So, it wouldn't surprise me if he was here next season, but JayRod's time is surely up. There's an excellent striker buried deep inside JayRod, and I think we've waited long enough for him to find it. No doubt the sports media will tell all and sundry how badly we've treated him.
Well didn't see the game just seen the score. Brilliant result. Probably our most impressive PL result of the season for me. Really pleased Fraser had a good game, hope he gains some confidence from it. I've got my lad for the weekend and I'm back off to enjoy to the sun... enjoy the rest of your evening everyone
Interviewed by another giant. Didn't you see his hair come into view at one point.? I don't think Fraser was looking up, but he certainly wasn't looking down, as he usually does when interviewed.
I know a couple of people on here (no names, no pack-drill) were still in fear we might be going down when we went behind against Palace. Personally, the last time I was in any genuine worry of relegation was back in early 2010, before that draw at Chelsea.
I've read somewhere that Chinese footy teams have a quota of Asian players. Thus I suspect he'll be much in demand in the moneybags fever of Chinese football - he has rarity value and as captain of Japan may well be a catch on that basis as well. Also, we don't seem to let people run their contracts down to the last year - I'm certain he will have been offered a renewal, so all I can surmise is that he's chosen not to sign. I feel sick writing this, by the way. No-one could possibly be happier than I if this ends up shown to be speculative bollocks and he extends tomorrow. Except maybe Qwerty. Vin
I only said yesterday to my lad that I'd love Maya to stay at Saints to the end of his career. Love the bloke!
Same here. We've had a couple of dodgy moments since being back in the PL, but the last time I was genuinely fearing the club would be relegated, it was a different club, owned by non-Liebherrs. These days it just isn't going to happen.
Hopefully this doesn't annoy people who haven't seen Jordy's goal and wanted to wait until later. Don't worry, it's worth looking at again and again. Similar to his Lge Cup goal against Arsenal:
