BBC Radio Humberside @RadioHumberside The Football Supporters Federation say the turnstiles at Hull's KCOM Stadium aren't fit for purpose. On RH this morning, Amanda Jacks from the FSF and Geoff from the Trust (I did a bit as well, but they've probably seen sense and edited me out by now)
Do I remember the Police saying the same in the Safety Group minutes? (Or at least questioning it and asking for a report?)
But hasn't Ehab sorted it by closing half the ground and driving away thousands Not a problem for a mind like our Ehab
KCOM Turnstiles "not fit for purpose" The Football Supporters Federation have criticised the communication from the SMC and the turnstile system at the stadium. The SMC have issued the following statement: "The turnstiles we use at the KCOM Stadium are designed and manufactured by a highly reputable company in the industry, used at many other Premier League and Championship grounds and are fully compliant and fit for purpose. We always advise supporters to arrive in plenty of time to ensure they gain entry to the stadium in good time before kick-off. We have great facilities within the KCOM Stadium for supporters to take advantage of pre-match including food and drink on the concourse, as well as pre-match entertainment,
They are an absolute disgrace. It takes twice as long to get through this computerised turnstile than it ever did a manned turnstile. It's the time they take to reset in between scanning one ticket to scanning the next. Worst system ever. You're also lucky if you can scan a paper printed ticket. It's a shame the PL or FL can't restrict clubs to using certain manufacturers of this access equipment. Ours was clearly bought on eBay after a night on the pop. It's total ****e. You now have to allow for the 20 minutes of queuing- very difficult with mid week matches and work commitments. I don't for one minute believe the SMC statement that this system is used at other grounds. Great facilities? Are they taking the piss? Wednesday night for the second home match running there was no running water in the toilets in South Stand - no handwashing or toilet flushing. No TVs on in the concourse. Lying ****ing bastards.
It wasn't actually the police, it was the chairman of the SAG, Pete. He told the SMC that they'd had long enough to sort any teething problems and that he wanted a report into what was going wrong, along with details of what they were going to do to address it.
Can you imagine the chaos at the bars if everyone arrived early and wanted feeding and watering?! how long would it take to have a few pints at the bar in North stand?!
The pause between entry is the problem They've installed turnstiles that mean you now need more turnstiles to get the same flow ... smart move by the turnstile company !
Against West Ham there was a chap who somehow ballsed up scanned his daughter through scanned himself through - didn't enter and then his ticket wouldn't re-scan. So he had be sent around the ground to get another ticket to gain re-entry. He was raging
That and the fact that it takes about 20 attempts to scan those print at home tickets. Usually resulting in the steward having to override the system. Still, they'll probably just blame the fans as per usual.
On Wednesday in South Stand I arrived at 7:20. Queued for 2 minutes max. Guy in front of me gets to his seat seconds before kick off and says he's been queuing for 20 minutes. So that means between 7:20 and 7:25 enough people turned up to cause 20 minutes worth of queuing. It made a change for me to be early but the difference in the size of the queues in 5 minutes is startling. As annoying as it is to queue if everybody turns up at the same time then it is inevitable regardless of the system.
If you insist on arriving close to kick off, expect all the problems you get. Arrive 30 minutes before the off then absolutely no problems. I personally have never had any difficulties with home printed tickets either.
It will be the infrastructure behind the system... they've probably got a 20 year old 486 as the server. I'm sure the system would work fine (at least regards the reset) if the tin running it was up to spec.
