Everyone seems to be assuming that it's Cellino/Radz that's at fault with the GM contract situation. Has it occurred to you that it might be Monk that's told them he doesn't want to talk about it until the end of the season? This situation suits GM right down to the ground. He gets to choose if he stays or not, and can pick up any other job that suits him without compensation being an issue. He also has a gun at their heads if we do get promoted. They'd need to pay him whatever he wants as there would be a riot if we didn't keep him on. I think it's a bit of shrewd bit of business by GM rather than a club fault.
Ankle injury For Hadi Sacko - ruled him out against Brentford. Will be assessed tomorrow for the Preston game No updates On Garry Monk's contract situation. Hasn't spoken to the club about it and says, again, it's not his focus Monk on the players They have been great. They are focused and ready. Nobody was no more disappointed with this week's defeats. It's exciting times. Monk on the play-offs It's not our focus. Our only objective is this game on the weekend and three points. Monk's fighting talk We know what we are capable of and it's about showing that. It starts with Saturday's game. Monk on this week's losses We were disappointed with the two defeats. We have to learn from them. We want to make sure we get back on a winning run. It's impossible to doubt this group. Monk on team news It's the same as we were before the weekend but obviously with Liam. Tyler (Denton) is still out Monk on the Leeds crowd I am sure they are going to relish the last six games, as we are. We go there all together. The gaffer please log in to view this image Monk on the last six games We understand the excitement and quite rightly so. Garry Monk on the players' season so far They have achieved something harder than achieving a play-off already in fighting for a play-off place. They have put Leeds back on the map. Monk on Liam Cooper's ban We think it's incredibly harsh to be honest. But we have to accept it and move on. We feel disappointed for him. But it's a situation that we have to get on with.
True, except this isn't the first time the club has got to the end of the season with the manager / coach going on holiday without knowing what happens next. GM also stated the club haven't approached him yet (so you either believe that or not) about extending his contract. The club seem to do the same thing every year imo.
Good thanks, you? On a golf weekend this weekend so will be playing golf and on the piss so won't be able to follow the game. A win will definitely cement a playoff place. SG loves Leeds too much to stop that happening
Evening WJ, good point, Monk has been careful not to give anything away about contract talks. Kinda keeps him in the driving seat as he knows he could jump into almost any club in the Championship and I dare say a few in the Prem at anytime in the next few months
Are you aware that the club has the right to invoke a 12 month extension to GM's contract? Puts a different perspective on things, doesn't it?
Get us promoted, playing good attacking football, have a plan B, try different formations, and learn what "being tactical" means.......not much really......?
Get us promoted Many have tried, & not one has succeeded in getting us into the PL, so why should GM be criticised for it - especially as the season hasn't finished yet. Playing good attacking football We do, but sadly there is always another team who try to prevent us doing just that on the day. Sometimes we succeed, sometimes the opposition do. That's football, otherwise it would be a very dull canter. This season, we've played some absolutely blinding football, and not on the occasional basis we've become used to. I think it's most unfair that you criticise him for this. Have a plan B 4-2-3-1 is our plan B for this season. As you may recall, 4-4-2 was our disastrous plan A. Whilst some of his subs & tactical changes have been open to criticism, most have not. You must bear in mind the calibre of player that we can afford. We can't afford to have world class player in the team, far less on the bench. So again, most unfair to criticise him for this. Try different formations GM appears to have taken the view that we let other teams worry about us, rather than us change our tactics depending on who we play. It's not an absolute, as he does make minor tactical changes to the starting line-up to counter specific threats, but largely speaking, he maintains the same shape. There are many benefits of this which I won't go into. What other formations would you like? 4-4-2. See above. 3-5-2 - don't have the players to do it. 4-3-3 - if the midfield gets over-run with 4 or 5 in it, expecting us to do better with 3 in the middle is asking for trouble. So what formations would you like us to move to, and why? Again, as above, GM can only work with the calibre of player that are presently on the books. Learn what "being tactical" means Really? Ok, the above may be considered subjective. Let me provide you with some numbers to back this up: Since we came up into the Championship, our goal differences have been +11, -3, -9, -8, -11, -8. It's currently +13 - our best in this spell (still +11 after 30 games in 2010/2011, btw). Since we came up into the Championship, our points totals have been 72, 61, 61, 57, 56, 59. We currently have 69 points. Our best in this spell (was only 64 points after 30 games in 2010/2011) . Since we came up into the Championship, our finishing positions have been 7th, 14th, 13th, 15th, 15th, 13th. We're currently 5th. Our best in this spell (we were in 6th after 30 games in 2010/2011). So there you have it. Concrete proof that GM has made us produce our best season in the 7 years since we came up from L1. Tell me who could have done better & how would they have achieved this with the meagre resources available to them?
You're back 5 minutes and already you're trying to stick boot in, so be it, I like a good challenge, stick your Dukes up you Jock Sassenach.......... Get us promoted "Many have tried, & not one has succeeded in getting us into the PL, so why should GM be criticised for it - especially as the season hasn't finished yet". Well, I can't disagree with you on your above statement Jocky boy, considering we've never been promoted back to Prem since being relegated many moons ago. GM is the manager/coach, he knew the risks, responsibilities and rebounds when he took the job on. GM is responsible for training and picking the team, he's responsible for getting the players and team to play good attacking football, he's responsible for getting us promoted, no ifs no buts. Every manager/coach we've had since being relegated has come in for criticism, beginning, during and end of season, Monk is no different, he's nothing special till he achieves something special; if he falls at last hurdles, or before, then he'll come in for more criticism, if he doesn't, he'll get the plaudits. Virtually everyone criticised and slammed Hockaday, yet the players enjoyed and welcomed his training procedures. Playing good attacking football "We do, but sadly there is always another team who try to prevent us doing just that on the day. Sometimes we succeed, sometimes the opposition do. That's football, otherwise it would be a very dull canter. This season, we've played some absolutely blinding football, and not on the occasional basis we've become used to. I think it's most unfair that you expect him to criticise him for this". The opinions of whether we're playing good attacking football or not belong to everyone's own personal perceptions, and they are varied, on here and amongst the other fans. I personally don't believe we're playing good attacking football, and definitely not regularly. Sheff Wednesday and Derby games were good attacking football, we played good football when we won 4-0 against Preston, without Wood. We've won a few games 1-0, and were lucky to hang on to some of those wins, we've been lucky in hanging on for some of our draws, and we've been lucky in that some of the scores weren't higher in some of the games we've lost. Most games, nearly every game actually, we seem to play one good half and one mediocre, if not bad half, and I'm not the only one to say it, others on here and amongst other fans are saying it too. Here we are at the latter end of the season, why hasn't Monk recognised and done something to address this problem, after all, it is his job, would you know Jock? Have a plan B and Try different formations "4-2-3-1 is our plan B for this season. As you may recall, 4-4-2 was our disastrous plan A. Don't know if you listen to the fans responses on Popeys and Whelans commentary show Jock, but more and more fans are recognising we don't have a plan B, it's not all some of the fans are saying either. Even the Reading player Kermogant said the same thing. Monk picks virtually the same players week in week out, he also gets them playing the same defensive formation (4-2-3-1) with the same tactic (ball down the wings, cross it and hope Wood is there to tap it in) he doesn't seem to veer from any of it, even when he makes subs. Calibre of player? again, Monk was given free reign to bring in his own players, he bought players costing a few million instead of a few hundred thousand, granted they're not a Christian Bale or Ronaldo, but he brought the players in he wanted, he bears the responsibility. He also brought some kids up from the academy, so when it comes to calibre Jock, do you think Monk believes the players he brought in have calibre......or not? Contrary to popular belief, I believe we have players who can play the 4-4-2 formation, we need more attacking options upfront and play a couple of attacking mids, Hernandez can't do it all on his own. If our midfield are being over run and outplayed for most of our games, which I believe they are, how come, at this latter stage of the season has Monk not recognised nor addressed this problem either? Learn what "being tactical" means Really? "Ok, the above may be considered subjective. You're giving goal differences and league positions, not tactics. Monk sticks with the same tactics game in game out, ball to the wingers, cross the ball and hope Wood is there to tap it in, it's the same game play every game. How often do you see us attacking their goal down middle? Having said that, Monk is the one who decided whether we should play in cup comps or not, who the hell does he think he is. He picked the team v Sutton and it came back to bite him on his proverbial cos he thought it would be a cakewalk, yet there didn't seem to be any game plan, no tactics and no organisation, our defenders were so bamboozled they started their own little game of passing football. Blackwell got us to playoff final at the Millennium stadium in 2006, only to lose to Watford. McCallister took us to playoff final at Wembley in 2008, only to be beaten by Doncaster. Still love ya Jock................and still no tongue.
Perfect example of us not being able to afford the trip players was villa signing Hourihane from Barnsley. Reportedly on 39k a week, way out of our league but exactly what we needed. Been terrific for villa and look how their results have improved as a result
