If we finish bottom this season, we get around £98m in premier league prize money Got that from http://www.totalsportek.com/money/premier-league-prize-money/ so not sure if it's 100% but the calculations on there seem pretty well explained. So when we are relegated this season and finish bottom of the league, we'll still receive £98m in prize money. Couple that with a £25m (I think) parachute payment next season then there really is no financial danger in getting relegated if the club's wage structure is set correctly (i.e. players get a pay cut for relegation - which the club said they had in place in previous years) Our only hope is that Ellis Short realises that the club is worth peanuts in the second tier to any prospective buyer and he invests It might happen.... Honest
That £100m won't bail us out though. We're nearly £200m in debt so still not an attractive option for any prospective buyer.
It less salable now, the new buyer would need to punt an extra 100m on top of the fee they pay just to get the team competitive in this league, plus we're hemorrhaging 20m per season. Going down and stripping the squad back and getting the wage bill one of the lowest in the Championship is his best way of making use of the tv and para payments to clear the bank debt and get us operating in the black. Then we become more attractive, even in the championship. It then becomes about how much short is willing to loose on his investment.
It's who the debt is too though. most of it is owed to short on an interest free loan. That's nowt to worry about. It's the bank we need to pay off and fortunatly it's nowhere near what we owe short. It's interest rate is high, but the loan isn't. Relegation will see Short hoover up a lot of money which should see him lower the price of the club and hopefully get rid. This is beyond SAFC now, it's Ellis' get out plan. We'll suffer next season but hopefully we'll get shot for it. Small price to pay to trigger a new era of hope free of our present shackles.
Absolutely - just hope that the grass isn't just as brown on that side of the fence as it is on this!
There's vetting in place for selling English clubs now so hopefully it will keep us from getting lumbered with a Tan.
Now I comming off my positive cloud to reality who will we have yo build our team around next season if as likely JD, Pickford Larsson &JOS leave It's getting like Mackem enemy times ...... free fall with a clueless man in charge
Why would O'Shea leave? He's not going to get into another PL side and he'd be a good defender at that level. Pickford and Defoe definitely gone - Larsson probably gone back home and Kone sold for profit - hopefully the owner will see fit to invest any profit made in the playing staff - otherwise I have no idea!
Think it's about 90m in parachute payments nowadays actually, and it's structured so that you get a bigger chunk in the first year. I think it goes something like £45m, £30m, £15m but not sure when the first payment is due, I think it might be end of 17/18 if and when you go down.
The silliest word you've ever entered into a post!! Yeah I thought the parachutes had changed just couldn't find it anywhere
It's inevitable really innit. Still you have a small hope for a win, the battle of the two teams that can't score this weekend... whoever thought that this game would be fit for live TV is clearly sniffing gas, I can't imagine a more boring fixture at this point.
I would loan out Pickford, Ndong, Defoe, Kone to premier league clubs let them pay their wages, then on the assumption we get straight back up bring them back, 4 very good players already for the premier league !, and we can get 4 loanee's in. Gayle and Murphy would be two strikers I would go for plus one more to back up Watmore, then rebuild the midfield. And for this season I want us to win a couple of home games and drag WHU into the mire next week.
I'll still be there - it's probably someone at sky saying "we've hardly had Sunderland on for a while - United will hammer them so let's stick that one" and your lot draw almost every game since and the only game our striker scores in is for England since then!!
But it's the 100 million pound title. Everyone says it is - although they ignore the fact that you don't actually get that until the end of the premier league season! £7.1m is pretty rubbish really!!
