I feel we have good strikers and don't need to sign anyone in my opinion.

    • Lambert I feel should always be in the team, he is quality, holds up the the ball well, knows when to shoot an when to pass and always seems to win in the air.

    • Barnard is a clinical finisher and always plays his heart out for the team, gets stuck in and has a brilliant partnership with lambert.

    • Guly has the class to be of a very high quality as a striker, just look at the goals he scored away to dagenham and home to Bristol rovers and wallsall. Yes he can be inconsistent but I think we all know that when played on the wing he looks as if he is out of position and in my opinion he rarely puts in a poor performance when playing up front.

    • Connolly, probably our most 'quality' striker, really good finisher, on a very good run of form at the moment and I don't think we should interupt that, keep him in the team in the right games and provided he doesn't get injured he will do very well this season, also probably links in the best with lallana just look at the link up play for example Leeds and either WBA or werder game, I cannot remember which.

    • Forte, a player that everyone seems to forget about, Adkins would not have signed him up if he didn't know a thing or two about him, clearly can be quality just maybe lacking consistancy, however I'm sure this will improve as shown by his goal against Yeovil.

    • De Ridder didn't look comfortable playing up front and think that now chambo's gone he will be the rm, give it time and he will start to get a better understanding of the way we play.

    • Doble will get good experience at Bournemouth and he will improve, he is still very young.

So with this many players being able to play as a striker, do we really need another one? I can however see where some are coming from, Connolly is injury prone, Barnard could go to jail and then that would leave us with lambert and guly who I think make a good partnership but we have not seen them at this level playing together?

I think a lot depends on injuries. If all our strikers stay fit, we probably don't need a striker, but can we really rely on the likes of Connolly to stay fit for the whole season? I'd prefer to get a quality striker in, Norwich got promoted last season having about 7 strikers!

Thank god someone agrees with me!

I've said all week that we don't need another striker!

    A CB is priority!

A striker (and a CB) are key positions we need to improve:

    • Agreed, Lambert should always be in the team.

    • Barnard is indeed a clinical finisher and always plays his heart out for the team, gets stuck in and has a brilliant partnership with lambert. May be going to prison though.

    • Guly isnt good enough inho

    • Connolly is fantastic but I cant see him staying fit for long

    • Forte is useless

    • De Ridder will play RM

    • Doble isnt quite ready yet

It only takes one injury (to lambert?) and the striking options dont look anywhere near as good.

i agree as well, i think if barnard was to be sent down, we could use the loan market to cover him for however long

Got a feeling we will sign a striker over the weekend. Great what we have but need one more class prem / championship player to keep pushing team ahead.

I think we only have Lambert, Connolly and Barnard as natural strikers. I think Guly is better in the hole or on the wing, I like Forte on the wing, De Ridder is a winger and Doble is on loan at Bournemouth.

Personally, I think we need another NATURAL striker with pace like a Maynard, Rodriguez or Ebanks-Blake.

It also annoys me when people assume that Connolly won't be fit for the whole season; how do you know?! Since having his operation he said he feels fitter than ever as he felt that was causing his injuries.

Yep! I would agree. Jus three natural CENTRAL strikers.
    Lambert, Connolly and Barnard.

Worry about Barnard being a bit pedestrian.
He looked like he was treading water against Man Utd last season ( against good defenders ).
    Very ineffective.

I believe another top striker needed, just in case of suspension / injury.

Always room for one more young hungry premiership striker on loan maybe for a few months whilst Barnard gets sorted. Injury & uncertainty of court case.

Disagree that he is ineffective. Great player when fully fit.

    Lets not forget:

Lambert signed a new 3 year deal. Is obviously the lead striker...

Barnard ALSO signed a new 3 year deal. He is obviously in NA's plans <ok>

Yeah exactly these are my thoughts, thinking we need a good establsihed championship cb who will be able to make the step up to the prem, now we have the cash let's plan for the future.

CB is necessary. Jaihdi dropped 1 div two years ago for a reason..age. Martin looked good, but if Fonte's out....we could be compromised. Gorkss, please £1m good value for peace of mind.

If we are to go for a striker I would prefer Maynard as player, but getting Rodriguez of Burnley for a decent price, could be an astute bit of business.

Apologies for not being clearer, but I was referring to his performance against Man Utd, when his lack of pace made him look like he was sometimes going backwards when up against better quality defenders. Not doubting his ability as a striker in League One. Has a finish on him, if GIVEN the opportunity.

There is no natural replacement for Lambert, we have been very very fortunate that he has only missed one or two matches in the last two seasons. We need a striker who can contribute in the air and hold up play. Looking at the physicality of the strikers we're in for then Ebanks-Blake & Jay Rodriguez fit that bill better than Maynard.

Connolly is 34 years old and has a history of recent injuries and Adkins has yet to risk him for the full 90 minutes. Whilst a striker is far from essential to our cause if we want to captialise on the momentumn that has taken us to the top of the league then our squad needs to have that kind of strength in depth.

No idea. When I press the button for new thread it says new article, I don't know whether that would produce the thread as an article. I'm too scared to find out.

a CB is number 1 priority, a striker is number 2. We still need another striker but a CB is more important. Having said that Seaborne had a great game today

By the sounds of it Jay rod should fit the bill as he has stature and pace ,so he can play with sir Ricky and replace him if injured !
