You might call me nuts, but I believe Jamie Carragher has 3 more seasons left in him. You may say he lacks pace....How can you lack something you never had to start with? Jamie Carragher is in the Martin Keown mould, he will still be a consistent performer at 35. Whereas Daniel Agger is more like Rio Ferdinand. He'll be finished at 33. Yes I am saying Rio Ferdinand is finished. Only an idiot would suggest otherwise. I've got faith in Martin Skrtel, I believe Steve Clarke can improve him further. As for Martin Kelly, he's the heir apparent to Carra and thats without a shadow of a doubt. He's a future vice captain if there every was one. We could have a Liverpudlian back four. Flanagan Kelly Wisdom and Robinson. Thats eventually.
Yea but the more he gets used the more vulnerable he gets to being injured. Players pick up injuries towards the end of the season because of exhaustion and so they are more susceptible to injuries and silly mistakes.
It's not negativity Ze, it's just an analytical look at the squad and identifying areas of relative weakness. i've said all summer that we need another CB and I can't be arsed going over it all yet again so I'll just say-we need another CB. Whether Mertesacker is the man or not I don't know. he's the right stature. It wouldn't hurt at all to have someone to bully attackers. As has been said, we've never really replaced Sami, Sami's don't come along all that often unfortunately, and we still need a season of steady improvement to attract some of the best foreign players with their eye on the CL.
The problem is, anymore signings this summer and we seriously run the risk of players just not gelling.
DC has already said that Enrique was likely to be the end of our dealing in this transfer window. Now they too are aware of the CB situation and they trust that they have enough cover already in the squad - to the extent that they appear to be willing to consider bids for Ayala.
They said the same after Downing too, think they want to shift some people off first before they act.
That is a good point, I agree. I'm already (very slightly) concerned about the number of new faces but if we start off with the main core as close as possible to the end of last season and ease the others in- in the areas where we were definitely lacking, or rotate a little, we ought to be ok. With that in mind I think it would be good to get a CB who is proven but will be happy to play back-up. I must admit I have no suggestions as to who might fit that bill. Obviously I'm better at seeing problems than solutions- which is why I'm not in charge and KK is.
I don't think that is the case this time. If any of the press comment can be believed then it may well be that whilst LFC were interested in Enrique, they would not have made a move for him until the price was right for them. Had Newcastle stuck at their supposed original valuation then we would have gone with what we had. I believe that our CB position is exactly the same. Unless the price is right we will use what we have got - and what we have got is felt to be better than many of our Prem opponents (no names/no pack-drill)
Totally agree - there seems to be 2 decent premium proven CBs out there Dann and Cahill. Arsenal seem in for one of them and teams know they will have a lot of cash selling Fab and Nasri so might end up paying over the odds... That will leave one available to us, and the less we sound like we wanna buy then the less we'll pay... Seems although we paid over the odds for carroll, Henderson and downing whom we clearly wanted to guarantee we got, were doing some shrewd business now...
True to a point but the reason the dealings were done early was to give them time to do exactly that. They have all played in at least 2 or 3 games so I don't think that will be a problem.Enrique coming in late shouldn't be a problem with his prem experience.Anyway look at Suarez..looked like he was born a scouser last Jan!!
