Keith Edwards. Saw Waggy in his Autumn seasons but Keith in his heyday. Clinical, merciless and unerring. Often played alongside mediocre team mates but stood out like a beacon.
No one has done it for us at the top level. Basically, waggy, Edwards, payton, chillo up there. Noone has done it at top level
Watching Keith Edwards brought moments of joy in dismal times. Would have liked to see him in a really good City side, one of the most natural goalscorer I have seen. As he showed everywhere he played. Lord knows what he would have been like if he had been a bit keener on training.
I used to know an older City fan in my local who would have thrown the name Bill Bradbury into it. In fact no matter what you were discussing re City he would bring Bill Bradbury into it.
I saw BB and would agree that he would rate consideration. Would add that I never saw either Edwards or Payton.
It was always a joke in the pub how this chap always brought Bill Bradbury into it. Rated him higher than Waggy.
Yes Bill Bradbury is worthy of consideration, he was also a great entertainer, a clown prince in his era.
I am waiting for someone to mention a guest in a testimonial or someone who swapped shirts at the end of a game.
Yes, but we are talking City. Chillo scored more over roughly the same amount of time Waggy played for City. There was little between them in their goals per game ratio.
Another oldie very worthy of consideration who had a superb goals/game ratio was Alf Ackerman who preceded Bill Bradbury and covered the Carter years. On this statistic he ranks as the most prolific of all aforementioned Hull City strikers- 50 goals in 92 appearances.
I started going just as we signed Edwards the first time, but i haven't really seen anyone better since. I thought Payton was also great at scoring but my memories of him was, that running at goal, he was unstoppable and you would put your house on him scoring. If he had his back to goal he lost all momentum. Edwards seemed to be able to score running at goal or back to goal, although i am sure reality will prove otherwise ..... Wasn't Edwards at the top of the goalscoring charts even though we was near/at the bottom of the league one season? As someone already mentions, how many would he have got if we had been a team challenging for promotion. I was gutted when we let him go back to SUFC, although we did get our own back the next time we visited Bramall Lane, and took the piss out of him so much, he could only score three goals against us.... That taught him....
I'll agree with BMB. Alf Ackerman didnt have a long career at City compared to Chillo and Waggy but he was deadly from any angle. If he'd played longer with us his record would be right at the top. In the air Chillo was without equal and Waggy was like Jimmy Greaves...could make something out of nothing.
