Lee Johnson vows to carry on as Bristol City head coach despite dropping into relegation zone By a_stockhausen | Posted: March 04, 2017 Lee Johnson vowed to carry on in his role as head coach after seeing his side held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by fellow strugglers Burton Albion at Ashton Gate today. Disenchanted Robins fans stayed behind afterwards to protest and there were chants of "we want Johnson out as the mood turned ugly. The result saw City drop into the Championship relegation zone for the first time this season and pressure is being brought to bear on majority shareholder Steve Lansdown and his board of directors to act decisively with 11 games of the campaign to go. But Johnson remains in charge and is determined to keep working hard to haul City to safety. Speaking at the post-match press conference, he said: "It doesn't change anything for me. I continue to work hard and keep going. There have been so many times when good management has put us in a position to win games this season and we have not done so. "We're in the bottom three now, which is disappointing, but we still have 11 games to go and we can get out of it. There are still games against Wigan and Blackburn to come and those give us an opportunity." Certainly, the Robins had chances to win the game and Burton boss Nigel Clough saw it as a point gained for his team. Lee Tomlin missed a 66th minute penalty for City and Johnson was left to rue a series of missed chances. He added: "We could have won that game twice over to be honest. We had a perfectly good goal ruled out and some great chances and we've done everything but score. "We've had some unbelievable chances at big times in the game, but you have to put them away. You can have all the play and possession, but it means nothing if you can't put the ball into the net." Johnson described this as a "must-win" game in the build-up and, although he was reasonably satisfied with his team's performance, he admitted he was frustrated at the outcome. "The positives were that we played the game like a cup final and gave it everything," said. I thought we gave it a right go and dominated the game for long periods. "That's the frustrating bit, because you are willing the ball to go over the line. We had the performance today, but didn't get the result, which is disappointing." Yep stayed behind and chanted we want Johnson out. However I was amazed more did not join in. Zombies going through the motions come to mind
Nobody is really enjoying this current situation and sadly the only option left to stand any chance of redemption is to get rid of Lee.
Did he say that today or is that a recycled quote from last time? LJ - you're a nice bloke. Completely unfairly treated as a player at City. And I genuinely think you have potential. But please, get the fack out now. It's not happening at this moment in time.
He said it today.. Lee Johnson vowed to carry on in his role as head coach after seeing his side held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by fellow strugglers Burton Albion at Ashton Gate today.
If Lee isn't gone after this then many will start questioning the true commitment of SL, something I have had my doubts about for many years whilst becoming fed up with the promises that remain unkept.
All we need is Sid James in goal and Barbera Windsor up front - with Kenneth Williams putting the crosses in!!!
Think he is here at least until the end of the season. We can get 67 points max.Not expecting any Tuesday.
The term came from the Victorian period. I believe it was Dame Clara Butt who lived in Bristol from an early age. She became a well established opera singer. Another of her assets was her large boobs which the Cockney language adopted as per.
Don't be to complimentary, someone will start a 'Did you know thread' and god knows where thate would take us...
This is something that I too have been wondering. Why would someone who claims to want to see Bristol City in the Premier League, totally ignore the situation unfolding before him? I can't imagine it's the cost of cancelling LJs contract - after all, players are more expensive than managers - and we seem to have money to burn on them - plus the cost of paying him off can't possibly compare to the financial loss of dropping into L1 and the 'stay away' that would cause. It doesn't make sense to me, from either a footballing or a financial angle.
This sums it up nicely. Steve is an accountant and if anyone knows the financial impact, it is him. From a pure cost impact, getting rid of LJ is immaterial. We'll have to pay up his contract, another 12 months of which SL threw in as a very strange bonus, but this will be the proverbial drop in the ocean against the loss of Championship status as the TV and prize money, along with larger attendances, will outweigh this many, many times over. Of course we will have to pay a new manager as well but again, small change compared with the big picture. From a footballing perspective, there is simply no logic here whatsoever. All of us simply cannot believe what is happening in front of our eyes other than SL. Mark Ashton, whom many of us seem to have respect for, surely must have a plan in place here as that is his job. If he takes it to SL and he denies him, then so be it. But someone please tell me why on earth he would seem to sit on his Channel Island and watch his gleaming ship sink into the abyss? It just makes no sense. I see no way that we're digging ourselves out of this now.
