    Bristol City v Burton preview

Bristol City are waiting to hear whether top scorer Tammy Abraham will be fit for the Sky Bet Championship relegation showdown with Burton.

Loan signing Abraham has had a second scan on a thigh injury which has ruled him out of the last three games, and City are set to discuss the 21-goal striker's fitness with his parent club Chelsea.

Milan Djuric could be available following a groin problem, the Bosnian striker having had an injection this week in the hope of making the Ashton Gate clash.

Mark Little (hamstring) is expected to be missing again as under-fire Robins boss Lee Johnson attempts to improve on a miserable run of one win in 15 games.

Burton make the trip hampered by a raft of injury problems.

On-loan Burnley winger Michael Kightly could be the latest addition to a lengthy list of absentees after complaining of a tight hamstring this week.

Top scorer Jackson Irvine missed the home draw with Blackburn with a groin problem while Lucas Akins (calf), Damien McCrory (hamstring) and John Brayford (knee) have now missed several matches and remain major doubts.

One piece of positive injury news for Burton boss Nigel C
lough was the return to action of defender Kyle McFadzean against Blackburn last weekend after a toe problem.

Three key players for tomorrow's opponents.
    • Looks at three players who could feature for the Brewers
    • City host the Brewers at Ashton Gate tomorrow (3pm)
    • Dyer, Woodrow and Sordell are all profiled
    Lloyd Dyer

After recovering from a calf complaint, which saw the winger miss two outings, Dyer has featured in the Brewers’ last three fixtures. With several injuries in the camp, the 34-year-old’s experience is playing a key role in Burton’s fight for survival. Following his release from Burnley in the summer, the wide man received a warm reception from the Burton faithful, with Nigel Clough describing his pace and attitude as a ‘key asset’. The Birmingham-born attacker sits just three goals behind Jackson Irvine, the Brewers’ eight-goal top scorer, already beating his combined tally from the previous two seasons. Dyer will be desperate to retain the Brewers’ Championship status, and will prove a real handful for City tomorrow, even if it’s from off the bench.

    Cauley Woodrow

Burton are starting to see the best from Woodrow now he has returned to full fitness. The on-loan Fulham player joined the Brewers in January having been restricted to few first-team appearances at Craven Cottage. In fact, his last involvement came in Fulham’s 2-1 defeat to City in the EFL Cup, where he missed a second-half penalty. Since joining the Brewers, the 22-year-old has made a good impact to date, netting twice in five games. Clough has spoken on the importance of the loanee, insisting he will continue to improve as the season progresses. The striker will be eager to add to his goalscoring form, acknowledging a good loan spell at the Pirelli Stadium could prove beneficial upon his return to his parent club.

    Marvin Sordell

Sordell arrived at the Brewers in January from League One side Coventry City, penning a deal until the end of the campaign. The 26-year-old has been unsettled in recent seasons, with Burton being his fifth club since the 2013/14 season. A former England Under-21 striker, the front man was also part of Team GB’s football squad at the London 2012 Olympic Games, and he also boasts Premier League experience. Intent on playing his part in Burton’s ‘fairytale journey’, the former Watford playmaker will arrive in BS3 full of confidence having opened his goalscoring account last time out. Desperate to impress in the remaining games, Sordell is hoping to secure a new contract at the Pirelli Stadium, with tomorrow being another chance to show he is capable of competing at Championship level.

All you need to know about BURTON ALBION

Burton were heavily tipped for an immediate return to Sky Bet League One but are defying the odds heading into the final furlong. The Brewers seem to have found their best form heading into the season’s finale, with three wins in their last seven outings. However, they find themselves without top scorer Jackson Irvine (groin injury), who has netted eight times from midfield this term. Lucas Akins (calf), Damien McCrory (hamstring) and John Brayford (knee) are also sidelined.

    MANAGER

Nigel Clough – Former Nottingham Forest and Liverpool man who made over 600 appearances throughout his 24-year playing career. Clough became player-manager of Burton in 1998 and spent 11 years at the club, leaving for Derby County in January 2009 with the team in pole position for a place in the EFL for the first time. Four years with the Rams ended with a derby defeat to Forest and Sheffield United secured his signature a couple of months later. Clough couldn’t guide the Blades to promotion and returned to Burton following Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s departure to QPR.

    OFFICIALS

Graham Scott is the man in the middle. He will be assisted by Dave Bryan and Mick McDonough. Brendan Malone is the fourth official.

    TICKETS

City fans will be able to pay on the day. It is a silver category fixture.

    LAST TIME OUT

Burton Albion 1-2 Bristol City, August 13th 2016. City’s first-ever visit to Pirelli Stadium ended in victory thanks to Tammy Abraham’s brace. The on-loan Chelsea striker fired home from close range on the stroke of half-time to give the visitors the lead, only for Tom Naylor to equalise two minutes from time. The drama wasn’t over though, as Jonathan Kodjia crossed for Abraham to score the winner five minutes into stoppage time.

    LAST SEASON

    League One: 2nd (promoted)
Emirates FA Cup: First round (lost to Peterborough)
EFL Cup: Second round (lost to Middlesbrough)

    DID YOU KNOW?

Burton Albion were founded in 1950 and spent their entire existence up until May 2009 in non-league football. Since their elevation into the EFL they haven’t looked back, entering the Championship for the first time this season. They are now targeting an extended stay in English football’s second tier.

NIGEL Clough believes Bristol City will come out all guns blazing on Saturday looking for a vital three points.

Defeat at Aston Villa on Tuesday leaves Bristol only out of the bottom three on goal difference and three points adrift of Albion.

Clough said: “They will see it as their chance to get three points and set them on the path to securing safety.
“It’s a difficult one. They will come out of the blocks but will be nervous as well. It’s a case of getting through the first 15 to 20 minutes and seeing what happens from there.
“Bristol City have played well in a lot of games and haven’t got a break. They were 3-0 up at Derby, 2-0 up at Newcastle (but didn't win). They are a good team who just aren’t getting that bit of luck.

They might be capable of putting something together.
“They will want the first goal and if they get it you will see the confidence flooding back. But if we can get the first goal we will see how the crowd react.”
Well there you have it, Burton hoping for a first goal and getting the crowd on their side ... in as many words

I very nearly contacted Ibodyslam about his spare tickets for today's game, but then my dads kitchen roof sprung a leak and as I am his landlord I have to fix it this weekend.
(I would have helped him anyway of course - not just because I am his landlord!!)

But I think he will Rob and what a sad reflection on Bristol City. Lansdown hasn't got the balls and certainly will never admit he could possibly be wrong.
