Had a teleconference with a firm in Manchester today, about 6 of us involved including their solicitors and accountants. As usual before the start they mentioned that it was being recorded, I said "As this is being recorded could I just say that Paul Pogba is not worth £89m and Utd overpaid". All except my immediate boss, who is not into football found it amusing, he told me afterwards never to do anything like that again.

I replied" can't promise, as I do not have long to go until I can retire"

Who actually gives a ****? Let alone, give a **** enough to want to kill someone who mixed up a couple of Envelopes for an award that no one gives a **** about? Last year, it was the "Oscars so white" crap, they talk about it like it's some massively important **** when really it's just ego stroking bullshit. #rant

i'd agree. anyone that wound up over an award that really only means the makers can take oscar winning onto their next 3/4 **** movies and sell them needs a reality check.

I know someone who has worked on the R+D side of medicine development. Think he had a team under him at one point.

Principal Medicinal Chemist – Small Molecule Oncology Therapeutics

    Ref: 19449

Our client is a world-leading centre for excellence in cancer research. They provide an exceptional environment in which to pursue basic, translational and clinical research programmes in small molecule therapeutics.

Their aim is to understand the fundamental basis of cancer and apply that knowledge in developing new treatment strategies for cancer patients. Advanced research programmes span a spectrum of cancer research, from the molecular and cellular basis of cancer through to drug discovery, translational research and clinical trials.

They possess outstanding laboratory facilities and exceptional core services, including next generation sequencing, microarrays, confocal microscopy, bioinformatics, histology and mass-spectrometry.

Reporting directly to the Head of Chemistry, the successful candidate will deliver internal and external scientific leadership, providing cross-project impact and influence to drive internal programmes to key milestones. The post holder will be expected to lead from the lab and as such will be expected to maintain an active laboratory presence. The role will require delivery of strategic recommendations on key topics, alongside responsibility for critical areas such as structural biology, oversight of laboratory safety, informatics and on-going development of laboratory infrastructure.

A critical component of the role will be the on-going development of the chemistry team, in terms of project and line management activities, ensuring delivery and managing and enhancing performance across the team. The successful applicant should have a PhD in medicinal or organic chemistry (or a related subject) along with a track record in the discovery and optimisation of biologically relevant molecules for clinical evaluation. You will also have extensive experience of project, line and matrix management and the ability to provide strategic direction and leadership across the chemistry team.
