Yes, City take more than Newcastle to away games it is just that there are professional Jawdies everywhere to boost their numbers. More professional Mackem, more professional Smoggies...
It's like Day Jar View all over again. Eyes down then, Pop , Newcastle (city) 292, 900 Pop. Newcastle (urban) 879,996 (Tyneside 7th largest in England) Pop. Newastle (metro) 1,650,000 (Tyne and Wear 6th most populous) Thanks.
How do they get tickets for away games with all those professional Jawdies elsewhere snapping them up. Given the city population isn't much bigger than Hull then a hell of a lot of their support must come from outside the city then. A bit like Hull. Tyne and Wear? Since when was Wearside a hotbed of Newcastle support or vice versa? Delusion works both ways. Pointed out to a fan of TWS last night that his claims of their massive support were rubbish, Leeds support as percentage of the population was just about the worst barring Rotherham, didn't even get onto the metropolitan area thing. His reply was they do better than City as we have no opposition nearby for fans whilst they have Huddersfield and Bradford. At which point I gave up and ordered another beer.
I don't want to see them go out of business. But them spending in perpetuity in the lower reaches of League 2 with regular exits from the Cup at the hands of clubs lower down the pyramid than Sutton would be a pleasant thought.
Newcastle's support is brilliant, but to suggest it's a city similar in size to Hull is ridiculous. Ignoring Wearside, which is obviously Sunderland territory, just the Tyne area has a population of nearly 900k, much bigger than than entire population of East Yorkshire.
Although Gateshead have a RL team, Newcastle benefit from not having the world's favourite game in their city. Rumour has it NUFC decided on black and white for their shirts out of admiration for Hull.
Sadly, there are some people in Hull who would believe that last sentence. Including the ones who complained that Wigan had stolen "our song". This song of FC'S began " Ah, me lads you should have seen their faces ganning along the Boulevard...".
I think relegation will catch up with Sunderland this year. I think BFS will get Palace out of it unfortunately. Lester's players look like they'll now turn up on the weekend and Swansea looked to have turn the corner. I think it'll be us and Boro who join Sunderland. Think the turmoil and injuries will catch up with us. Bournemouth will do just enough.
"They have every RL Super League team playing in their city this year and have had for the past 2 years. A popular venue for the "Magic Weekend" event." A one off weekend event would not be any competition for the support of people in Newcastle who couldn't switch allegiances like they did in Hull when the two rugby league clubs in our city's period of greatest success coincided with our worst. Or make people decide to go to one or the other when both seasons are in operation as it is vry expensive to go to both these days. Which was the point City Man was getting at. Only Hull, Leeds and Bradford had rugby league clubs before football ones. Only Hull and Leeds had two rugby clubs. Leeds RL has had more success than both Hull clubs put together but no one calls Leeds a rugby "town".
