He's on more than Palacios I think so he'll have to take a 30k+ wage cut to join us which I doubt he'd agree to. No chance we'll get SWP.

Stoke have joined the chase for Manchester City outcast Shaun Wright-Phillips.

Potters boss Tony Pulis is ready to pay City’s £2million asking price and offer better terms than Bolton for the former England international midfielder.

Stoke’s move comes as a shock, as Pulis already has Jermaine Pennant and Matty Etherington - one of the best wing combinations in the top flight.

But Pulis plans to go for it this season – both at home and in the Europa League – thanks to the backing of the wealthy Coates family.

Bolton, who in theory could could offer Wright-Phillips a better chance at a regular first-team place, are keen but the price of the package is cooling their interest.

Stoke are also in talks with Tottenham midfielder Wilson Palacios about a £10m move.

However, landing his Spurs team-mate Peter Crouch as part of a £20m double deal is proving tricky, as Everton are also in the picture for the England striker.

I don't really rate SWP, from what I've seen of him, he's quick and can move well with the ball, decent enough shot, but passing and crosses don't really come into it! Too much money to be on the bench, cause I'd pick Pennant first.

Nice option to have re injuries cos SWP can play either wing and in the middle, just behind KJ and Walters. Can't see it happening though.

I'd have him for £2m and if he took a wage cut.

It'll be a subsidising of wages you would think, if he was to come.

I wouldnt care much for SWP, but again we are not strengthening the areas that we need! If just want cover then young english talent on the cheap is what you need, not overpaid has beens!

Smithers - What if JP or Matty got injured? We would then need decent cover and at £2m SWP would be good business. We need good competition for places everywhere.

Alot of these threads are now crossing over! It doesn't matter who we buy it's if they are utilised correctly! We all know we need cover for certain areas, but we also need to improve some of the fundamental floors in the squad, like centre mid! I wonder if we will get cover for the likes of Delap & Whitehead etc - Nah they will play every fukin minute of every fukin game!

Just got home and what's happening on here? Must agree that, SWP would be great cover for Matty or Jermaine.. it's something we missed various times last season.
But, correct about Rory there is simply NO competition from midfield places..

I'm just trying to be realistic. Matty and Pennant are better, and that'd make him bloody expensive cover. Obviously I think he'd be good for us, I just don't think he offers much for the money he's on.

I'm not saying that SWP wouldnt be excellent cover for our wingers! All I'm saying is that sigings like Woodgate, Upson and a potential SWP are not really cover players, they would expect to play and will be at the top end of our wage structure. SWP is meant to be on 70K a week and Upson must have been on 50k+ so surely that means even with a pay cut they will be earning more than our captain's 28K a week and probably on a par with Lazy Jone's 45K. Woodgate is on 20K a week with a pay per play bonus that could equate to another 20k a week! Regardless of whether they are free (nothing is free in the world of greedy bastard footballers) or not, they are all going to be at the top end of our pay structure as alledged COVER options! I personally dont get it! But I'm not the manager and I wont have to deal with the likes of Matty, Huth, Shawx wondering why they are on 10K a week less!

I'm not Einstein, nor a rocket scientist, but why would SWP swap £80K per week and not play too much football, for say £40K per week and sit on the bench for say 50% of the time??? Well Smithers said nothing is free in the world of greed bastard footballers!!!

Anyway, a possible solution, I heard that SWP was a VERY promising CB at school!!!!

Do you remember, 'John Terry's your Dad'? I hope SWP doesn't. He would look good on our bench.

Also, whoever said Deano starts every game? Whelan was keeping him out of the team last time I checked.
