Harding is awful, Fox is the best LB in the league. This is a brilliant piece of business and another statement of intent. I agree that I'd like another CB aswell. Fonte and Martin are good but I'd worry if we were to play Jaidi or Seaborne.
No I'm pleased we have got Fox! It's just not a position we needed to make a massive improvement on.. We need a CB to partner Fonte. A CB and one winger on loan will do me now
Nigel has a lot of faith in Martin, as do I. I agree we need that CB alongside Fonte. This team is making me drool.
Totally agree with this! Harding is decent at going forward but he is atrocious at defending!! Fox is a brilliant signing!
I think a LB was more of a priority than a CB. Fonte and Martin could be capable of making a good partnership but I don't think Dickson or Harding would ever be good enough for the Prem.
Dickson's had a rubbish pre-season, I think that sent alarm bells ringing for Adkins. Therfore, the signing of a top quality left back is ideal
Very pleased that we are able to draw players away from other competitive championship sides and have them excited at the prospect of playing for us!
I'm not sure we will sign a CB now, there's a lot of noise about potential strikers coming on (possibly today?) and that will make our 4th signing of the window, I'm not sure 5 signings would agree with Adkin's 'not upsetting the squad' views on too many transfers
Although i believe Fonte partnered with Martin, Seaborne would be a decent championship CD partnership, take Fonte out of the equation (due to suspension or injury) and it is a completely different story. CB is priority now for me, and if the rumours are believed to be true it is a position that NA has been trying to fill. I think a striker can wait until January if we are struggling for goals from our frontline.
He's probably just as excited at the prospect of his new pay packet. I know that sounds cynical but money talks even if we are an attractive proposition now.
Actually, you're right. Although, I suppose it all depends on how much trust Adkins has in the likes of Martin, Seaborne and Jaidi.
I think we are looking stronger & better in defence / CB then ever before. Jaidi is Jaidi & we know his strengths & weakneses & has all the experience at this level. Read he is now recovered from his knock at Yeovil & in contention for Sat's game. We then have Martin, (who in theory was our last choice CB ) who got the nod to play against Leeds & did ok. He made a few errors & gave away the ball but especially in light of his lack of experience he stepped up to the challenge. Well done to him. He has shown he can do a job if the others are not available. Martin also battled well on Tuesday night against Torquay and shows he has potential. Then we are left with Seaborne. Has had a great pre season and looked favourite to partner Fonte against Leeds. Unfortunately due to virus was unable to play. Don't think we are as weak in this position as people are saying.
I think Seaborne just needs to improve his consistency. He will play a very good game against West Brom then have a mare against Torquay. He definitely has the ability, just a shame he is such a confidence player.
Yes definitely. Think he has been very consistent in pre season. Saw him play West Brom with Fonte partnership and agree looked to have a very good game. Didn't see the Torquay game when he partnered Martin. Seaborne like others as yet unproven in the championship. Shame he was ill and didn't get his chance against Leeds. I think on what he has shown so far him & Fonte work well together and can form a good partnership.
