The command to ‘open the vault’ has been issued as tomorrow a ‘county set’ plunge horse has been identified. It’s not across the county line at Newbury, as part of their ‘Super Saturday’ card, but rather at Wolverhampton much later in the day. PADDYS RUNNER (7.45) – this old boy is a multiple winner over hurdles (including last time out at Winkers in January and now rated 125 in that sphere) but has yet to oblige on the level. He’s really taken to hurdling this past 18 months and even ran at the Cheltenham Festival last term. However, it’s interesting that he’s returned to the Flat tomorrow evening and if displaying the same level of improvement he has shown since jumping timber, allied to his respectable level of form displayed in the summer of ’15 (when he had decent placed form behind the likes of Mill Springs (now rated 98) and The Cashel Man (perched currently on 92) and beat Ballynanty (102 rated now) and Magic Circle (99)), then he really ought to be far too good here off a rating of just 71, I say, 71. Must say the Wolverhampton heat looks decidedly weak and Alan King really has found this grey son of Sir Percy a lovely opportunity to break his maiden tag on the Flat. Recommended. Meanwhile, personally, I also rather like FULL who debuts for those old rogues, the Pipe’s, in the ‘lucky last’ at Warwick tomorrow (4.55). This one had very solid form across The Channel and I think an opening mark of 117 can be exploited to the full. You would imagine in time Full has the potential to rise considerably higher than this opening perch given that he is a half-brother to Group 1 winners Full of Gold and Fuisse. Good luck, troops, and have a good weekend.
Very nice bumper at Newbury stick - I think Infinite Sun is a bit of value but clearly you will be telling us the winner
Through the card at Newbury: High Bridge - His form looks a cut above rest of the field Lac Fontana - Back to his Cheltenham winning mark of 139. Unexposed at this trip and had a nice spin on NYE. Bristol De Mai - Will find the trip more to his liking than Native River who may be outpaced. Form of his Peter Marsh run has been franked. Traffic Fluide - Altior needs to brush up his jumping but wouldnt be surprised to see him win by 10l+. Traffic Fluide at a price though. Movewiththetimes Vieux Lille - 2nd in the Tommy Whittle and remains on same mark, he finished well clear of the rest that day and looks decent form. Western Ryder - Looks like a stayer for the future, will need a strong gallop here which he may not get but will definitely be 1 for the champion bumper.
14/1 is more than fair given the debut run against an experienced rival. However the toss up for me is between DAPHNE DU CLOS and Kayf Mariner with Hendersons filly getting the nod due to the generous weight allowances. Really nice looking race. I had a good study of the Festival bumper last evening and the one I would be all over would be BLOW BY BLOW but do any of my Irish cousins have an angle on the horse because we have not seen it for some time. The form in the book is OUTSTANDING!
Only mentioned him a few hundred times on Cheltenham ante post thread 3 weeks ago he was just going to run in a Punchy bumper around April and that was it for the season. Didn't realise they've put him in for Cheltenham bumper after I read that article but then again it was O'Leary who is a grade A *insert swear word here* to deal with. Elliot was quoted as saying "we were disappointed with him after Punchestown as we expected him to do it easier but looking back now, the form is very useful and we think an awful lot of him" O'Leary quoted "we will stick to bumpers for this season and maybe he will head back to Punchestown. We think a lot of this horse and there's no rush with him"
Native River hacks up for me at Evens. Bristol De Mai was impressive the last day but the race fell apart. In the Betfair Hurdle, I can't split Clyne 7/1 & William H Bonney 12/1 as I think both are well ahead of the handicapper. Backed both in singles and have played the RFC as well.
Skidby Mill 4/1 1 25 Lingfield have no clue why its such a big price, crap race and he's easily the best horse in the race and loves lingfield. 1 15 Newbury - Goldslinger e/w 66/1 7 45 Wolves - Handsome Dan 33/1, another huge price, been running better than the form suggests and should at least sneak a place
12 20 Kenilworth - Break Out . Imagine will be about 100/1, have a couple of quid e/w. I also do Bill Prestages runners @ Kenilworth, a lot lose but also always seem to have a few that pop up and win at 66/1 - 100/1 now and again
4:35 Georgieshore 25/1 Won off a mark of 100 last March, been quiet since and no down to 99. Key thing is bottom weight on dreadful ground and we know it goes on the surface.
I'm not buying into this BALLYANDY being as well in as everyone seems to believe. Messire des Obeaux was beaten in listed class a few days back plus the fact Twisters horse looks to seriously need a trip he'd be a huge PLACE LAY to me (if I done those things). I think WILLIAM H BONNEY is nailed on to run well, everything suits and at 12/1 he's my bet. No bet in the race but in what's basically a match I'd be very much against Native River, think he'll be out to his correct Gold Cup price later, ie 12/1+.
For those of you who like William H Bonney - Wait For Me was beaten less than 4 lengths by him at Cheltenham and has a 5lbs pull. I'm convinced that last run was intended to put Wait For Me spot on for this (wasn't knocked about when headed after the last) and his form at Newbury as a novice reads very well (11L 2nd to Buveur D'Air then slammed Potters Legend 7L). Soft ground and strong pace right up his street too. You know it makes sense kids
ALTIOR & NATIVE RIVER double pays about 2/1 Also in the betfair hurdle two for me - MOVEWITHTHETIMES looks to have so much potential hopefully this is the day that he shows some if he does then that will boost the form of MOON RACER which makes my 16/1 ticket for the SN that little better My only other fancy LESSONS IN MILAN- 4.10 Newbury- currently priced up for the national and if I'm not mistaken looks like he needs to win today to stand a chance of getting in! The Only Horse Hemmings has entered in the national so he will want him in and should be ready to go especially with first time headgear on too
Interesting that Gordon Elliott sends over Veinard with the talented Jack Kennedy on board and his only ride of the day. Last seen out in a pretty competitive coral hurdle at leopardstown finishing 7th after a mistake at the last but only a couple of lengths of the winner. May like the hurly burly of this race and at 14/1 is a good each way play.
