QPR discussing move to site of Linford Christie Stadium

QPR are looking into the possibility of a new 30,000-capacity ground on the site of the Linford Christie Stadium.

It comes amid continued problems and delays with the proposed regeneration of Old Oak, where the club has been seeking to build a stadium.

Rangers are now assessing the feasibility of a new community stadium in partnership with athletics club Thames Valley Harriers.

Harriers use the venue next to Wormwood Scrubs, which opened as the West London Stadium in 1967 and was renamed in 1993 – the year after the Hammersmith-raised Christie won an Olympic 100 metres gold medal.

It is situated just a mile from Loftus Road, which has been QPR’s home for all but three of the last hundred years.

In theory, it is a good location as it is close to Lotus Road However, I can already hear the screams of no pubs nearby.

The key question is will it have a running track?

If yes, then I am most strongly against. If no, then for me or could be a possible option.

However, I can't see a viable football and athletics solution if it is to be a partnership.with the Harriers.

As above, I can't see this flying unless it is a complex of a football stadium and a separate running track.

It also does also indicate that Old Oak has very serious problems and a plan B is being developed.
 
Harriers don't need a 30k stadium so it could be feasible to have the track covered with seats that are in place for our games and removed inbetween. Hate stadiums with a track before the pitch!
 
Didn't we discuss this years ago on here and there were a million and one reasons why it was deemed a poor idea?

Better geographically but football stadia and running tracks don't mix well imo.
 
For me this was always the place (other than BBC). W!2
Notice we have gone from 40K to 35K now 30K If it gets any smaller we might as well stay at HQ.
They should do like Man City and have a smaller training ground attacted so that can have a running track.
A big no no for a track inside the stadium.

The cynic in me says, Things not looking good at QPR so Tone brings out another stadium story to stop the fans talking about the football. :emoticon-0127-lipss
 
It's a yes from me and I think 30k is a good starting point. When/if we go up and stay up then we can enlarge, the stadium can be designed to be expanded cheaply and easily. HQ can be used for TF's housing plan and may even pay for the stadium.
I thought the problem when this was discussed before was the proximity of the stadium to the hospital.

I think that the wording in the 'Wormwood Scrubs Act 1879' kills this idea off ...

''The Act gives rights and authority to the public, the Army and the Metropolitan Board of Works and its successors. The public's right to enjoy Wormwood Scrubs is protected in perpertuity - it may not be taken back wholesale by the military or sold unless the area "ceases to be used by the citizens of London"
