I'd have to agree with this, SC. As wonderful as the goal was, that was pretty much his sole attacking contribution to the game - he did however have a good game covering at full-back when Solly went walkies.
Mike make that a minority of 2, powell has said if players perform they will stay in the team so I think he will find it difficult to drop waggy on saturday - it wasn't a 5* performance but it was enough to keep his place - in my opinion!
Waggy knows the score, Green has been brought in as first choice. Waggy's goal will do him no harm at all and put pressure on Green to perform... fantastic for all. But Green will and should start.
I dont know why the squad has to be changed simply because Green is back - I seem to remember us doing alright two seasons ago when we ran with the same 11 for 7 games (and it was only tinkering that slowly saw us fall away). Just because you can change the Starting Line-Up doesnt mean you should
Still agree though that in the long run Green should be starting and I think having Waggy's pace to use in the last 15-20mins could really be a secret weapon come February time when legs are starting to tire
The pressure on Waggy to suceed should ensure a decent performance out of him, but if not, Green comes in. It is a win, win for the Nott Co game, and shows that we have strength in depth.
Ok, well i was doing my coaching course and watched the team train on monday, and the starting XI (or atleast what i think was) was this Elliot Hughes - Doc - Morrison - Wiggins/Evina Green - Pritchard - Hollands - Evina/Wiggins Waggy - Benson Atleast, that XI were doing something complete seperate to the rest of the squad in an unopposed game
That looks more like the team that would have played against Reading, I assume you saw them before the match was postponed.
I think that may have been the team VS Reading. Against Notts County will be a whole different ball game (so to speak), as the focus has to be on promotion this season. I think the team will be similar to last week. Robbie Solly, Taylor, Morrison, Wigs Green, Hollands, Stephens, JJ Hayes BWP Bench of: Sully, Doc, Pritch, Waggy and Benno.
A2C was doing his coaching badges if I remember correctly IA as he was on the BEEB forum asking for advice...
Either way im happy, waggy would be fair and fine to keep his place, but sometimes the better player just has to start, if it was a fitness thing I'd consider keeping waggy in. Sometimes there are players you simply have to start and Green & BWP come under that bracket
Disagree I would wouldnt I....If waggy gets dropped what message does that send out to the squad..what does it do for team spirit. Waggy dont mattr what you do how well you play score 5 in a match BUT if Greeny is available your out...not for me boys no way. Waggy starts sat Greeny on the bench at notts county
Agree. Waggy should be compared to Jackson. Neither are good at taking players in or getting loads of crosses in, but they defend well, score goals and link up with the full back when attacking.
