But is it? I've seen episodes of Star Trek where the crew all look the same but really, they have been taken over by aliens or entities from another dimension. So there you have it... LES REED IS AN ALIEN.
They're not hopeless but it should be acknowledged they have made a huge error in not bringing in a centre back. Sure, they tried but quite simply, it's not good enough. They sold Fonte, Van Dijk got injured halfway through the month. They had plenty of time to bring a CB in. They didn't, so the criticism they are getting is justified.
Isn't that rather a misleading perspective? It was Cortese's Southampton which took us into the premier league, first off. Secondly, the board messing up now does not necessarily mean they have messed up in the past. Thirdly, it could be argued the board are very good at what they do- just that what they do is not as good for Southampton FC as it would be if the board's mandate was slightly more, ahem, ambitious.
Yes, there was a mistake in not bringing a CB in, but i'd still rather have our board than 95% on the rest of English football.
They did. But it's worth noting that the current leadership inherited a team that earned 56 points from Cortese, pushed that up to 60 and then 63...and now have it on pace for 43. Two small steps forward, followed by one giant leap back.
Oh come on now...is everyone forgetting we just signed a deal with Sure. If anything is going to lift the spirits around here, it's a deal with an antiperspirant. Personally I prefer the roll ones as apposed to the spray. Perfect timing too, because if there's anyone that needs help with sweaty pits it's Les.
****'s sake, I remember the days of Rupert Lowe and him dragging the good name of Southampton through the dirt, now we have fans bitching just because we lose a few games in the Premier League. some people have short memories.
I did actually fancy a long rant about Rupert Lowe & Andrew Cowan tonight, but you know what, I said to myself, "Hey, it was frigging years ago, so let it go" Last 7 league games, 6 defeats, is sort of what's happening now. People tend to use internet forums to discuss what's happening now. It's not the most difficult concept to grasp, really.
A little perspective wouldn't go amiss though, we are at Wembley and we have had similar mid season bad runs in each of the last four seasons. Nobody can say that the club isn't being run financially well.
It's not hurting the club by a few fans having a moan after a defeat. No one has the definite argument or is right or wrong, it's just opinions. It isn't all bad at Saints, but it isn't all wonderful either. Being run financially well for whose benefit? The fans, the club's future, or so that the owner can recoup what was invested, plus a healthy profit? We have still spent far less (net) than any other club around. If the money doesn't go INTO the club, where does it go?
I remember when Rupert Lowe talked about the need to be sensible financially. As I recall that didn't end well.
'Healthy profit' doesn't even approach it, for what it's worth. Based on i) the initial purchase price, ii) the debt converted to equity, iii) the outstanding debt to Liebherr, and iv) the mooted purchase price, she'll clear round about 100m on the family's investment, for 100% of the club. And that's with a pretty cautious estimate for our earnings this season; could easily be 130m+.
Depends what way you may want to argue it. You can link them. Of course we want to improve season on season. The trouble is so does every other fncking club in the league and there is no given right it can only be US each year. Good luck to your burnleys, west Broms etc, through whatever reason they seem to have got it right this season where our results and form have dipped. We are on a bad run and everyone at the club now needs to stand up and be counted. With our support.
