I know it's an old chestnut, but to put the matter finally to bed now that both are retired, who was the best? If you could have one in your team, who would you have - or would you have neither. Lampard was a fantastic player. Timing runs in to the box and nerveless finishing. Among the best the Prem has seen in that skill set. Gerrard was more your all action, does a bit of everything kind of player. Could ping passes from defence to attack, could get out wide and cross and could also get beyond the strikers and score. Not as deadly as Lampard, but contributed more to the team effort (imo). Try to leave Chelsea/Liverpool bias behind and judge these 2 fine players. Who was the best. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/38023336
I thought it was a way of marking the fact that both had now retired and as it was no longer a partisan matter we could offer an opinion on them. Rather than snidey comments, you can just ignore it?
Lampard for me, reasons? These:- 175 goals, even Robbie Keane, Ian Wright, Robin van Persie, Teddy Sherringham, Dwight Yorke, Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler, even Emile Heskey... they're just a list of players who couldn't do what Frank Lampard has done goal wise. Frank never slipped when it came to the crunch. Frank has won everything Gerrard has and more, even beat him to a ballon d'or in 2005. Frank had more Longevity despite being two years older.
Lampard for me. Not going to use stats or anything to prove it, just my opinion and for me Lampard was the better player. By quite a bit.
Lampard stats are still better than bandy' Bandy:- 718 appearances in all competitions 155 goals Lampard:- 913 appearances in all competitions 274 goals For England bandy 66 caps 14 goals. Lampard 106 caps 29 goals Clearly only one winner here.
Gerrard for me. He, at times, single handily dragged a poor Liverpool team across the line, when they probably didn't deserve anything from a game.
