They could and should have been feted, all-time legends at Hull City given the circumstances of their buying the club, given their philanthropy in the city in general For me, that's the saddest aspect of this whole sorry business. Had the Allams not been so pig-headed they would have been regarded as the all-time greatest owners of Hull City. I supported them for longer than most but in the end realised their most damning flaw was their inability to accept they might just be wrong. All it would have taken was a press release apologising for their campaign to change the clubs name, accepting that it was a mistake. Instead, they doubled down and kept digging. It's a tragedy that the time of the clubs greatest achievements on the pitch have been indelibly tarnished by the behaviour of the owners.
This is awesome. The situation is so complex that it's often too awkward to quickly explain to someone with no prior knowledge of it but he's nailed it with that comment. So many people still think it's just about a name change (done for entirely well-meaning reasons, which we of course know it wasn't). They also think that it could be offset by investment. In reality the issues are so much deeper and more important than how much money is spent or even whether or not the team is successful. Even some of our fans don't understand this.
