Champ did it very well yesterday and undoubtedly has a big future ahead of him providing he can be kept sound. I see the old boy has been supported for the ‘Champion Bumper’ after his win and is as low as 16/1 for that heat. However, this is a contest that Mr Henderson loathes as he feels that it can ruin inexperienced horses both mentally (because of the razzamatazz of the whole day) and physically (asking immature horses a huge question at such a fledgling stage of their career). In fact he only ever runs one in the race if he feels that this is as good as they are (i.e. has no scope) or is ordered to by the owner – although given who owns Champ it’s not beyond the realms of possibility that could be the case here. Long term should I be sectioned for mentioning Champ and the 2020 Cheltenham Gold Cup?!? I tell you what though, troops, if someone offers you a 3 figured quote re him winning that race don’t dismiss it out of hand. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more…
Got to be some value in the 3.10 and 3.40 at Leicester. In the 3.10, I like Norse Light, staying on 2nd LTO at Market Rasen and Hughes on board. ( 10's available, Bet 365 ) In the 3.40, well, there is only one to be interested in, Bells 'N' Banjos for Fergal / Paddy Brennan, won first chase over C&D LTO. ( again 10's, Bet 365 ) At the same racecourse, if the opener stays with the 8 runners, I'm having a go with Ulis de Vassy, hopping Richie P can nudge it to 3rd, as it's on a nice mark.
There's a few of interest to me at Hereford, also. 1.30 Rebel Beat, handicap debut, shaped with promise last 2 runs ( 10's from 14's at the mo ) 2.30 Market Road, refitted cheekpieces, won point in that headgear ( drifting, drifting, drifting, 33's) 3.00 Final Nudge, may benefit from first time cheekpieces ( 8's at the mo ) ( of those, my spare pennies will likely go on Rebel Beat ) I wonder if the veteran Aachen can enjoy the conditions at this racecourse in the 3.30 - on a good mark and I had 2 cracking wins with this horse last season. I'm not interested in Pacha Du Polder if the lovely Victoria Pendlesbars (#famous) isn't on board. ( You can guess I'm in a very dull conference call and thus I'm using my considerable brain power in a far more enjoyable way )
Was he carrying his head a little high and awkwardly old boy? Perhaps greenness or maybe a sign of temperament?
Don’t fret, old boy, Mr Henderson’s brilliant brain and magic hands will cure him of this should it present a problem. At this stage though I think it can be put down to inexperience.
The text commentary on thebettingsite.com says " this ground looks virtually unraceable " when describing the 2.00 at Hereford.
Firebird Flier 20/1 ew Willlove the ground. Only a pound wrong with Mountianous on their run in the Welsh National.
