I always think of Parker when I think of the best player I saw in a City shirt, but it's almost certainly rose tinted specs. In terms of who we sold though, there cant be many others who have left us and played as long in the top flight and won medals for good clubs. Deano had a decent career but was never really a guaranteed first choice for any Prem club. Actually this is depressing, I'd have thought we'd have sold much better who went on to be genuine top class.
Of the players that I watched regularly, Stuart Pearson was head and shoulders above the rest of our exports. He was very good for us and I think went on to achieve more on the pitch than any of the others. Don Revie did very well both as a player and manager after he left us, when I was but a very young reserves only supporter
Chilton .. Pearson .. Marwood .. Edwards .. all sold relatively cheaply and not replaced .. Latterly Turner springs to mind .. of the current crop going the most Important to us is obviously Snoddy for his set piece deliveries and goals
Surprised no one has mentioned big Billy Whitehurst .. may not have set the footballing word alight but according to Peter Beardsley he was the best forward he played with (had plenty to do with Billy sorting out those that pissed Beardsley off though)
Definitely Stu Pearson....at the time I was gutted and almost switched allegiance to Man Utd........but even at that young age I resisted the temptation, and have no regrets as I made the right choice
Well, I've read your list, and I would say it was either Marwood or Parker, of the two I would probably go for Parker. I was also surprised Turner didn't go further in his career, I wanted West Ham to sign him. Considering the teams who were interested in him at the time, ending up at Sunderland then Norwich seems a waste.
