have to admit.. the result, performance & tactics last night were worrying. why the hell didnt we play a more attacking formation, why play 2 defensive midfielders in a typical pearson 4-4-2. we wasnt at home to man-u where we'd be outplayed... we were against an average L2 side and yet we still set out defensively. pearson said in his post-match interview that we dont have enough strength in depth.... which i think is bollocks for an excuse. basso, chester, hobbs, harper, mckenna, fryatt, simpson.. are all players NP has brought in himself to do a job in the championship, and yet it wasnt enough to turn over a L2 team. still too early to panic, but i hope pearson can turn things around soon as he doesnt have last seasons excuses (relegated team, financial problems, new players trying to blend etc) anymore.
Interesting that you think that club isnt still dealing with 'financial problems' any more. Nigel is working under a very strict budget and he has to cut his cloth accordingly. Do you really think Nigel didnt want to sign Danns and Greening and did all he could within the budget FORCED upon him?? Please get real. (aimed at City fans in general and not you personally).
our financial problems now are nowhere near what they were when NP was hired. we were crippled financially and were literally on the brink. compare that to now, where since the allams have taken over, cleared the debt and made some money available for NP to buy his own players. im not saying that NP hasnt had to work within a tight budget, but he's still spent around £4 million or so on players of his choice.
We've still spent a lot more than many teams. No we aren't rich enough to sign Danns etc. but we have splashed out some hefty transfer fees in the last year by Championship terms. There's no way NP can have that excuse this season, Blackpool for example have a much smaller wage structure than ours and hardly spend anything on fees, and there are plenty of clubs that succeed in this league (Leeds and Millwall last year for example) who spend hardly anything and have what appears to be a league 1 squad. But they can still score goals.
Pearson Out Fish Out Dolan Out Doug Out What a load of nonsense. We were utterly ****e last night, but it wasn't just one or two players, it was the entire team, there was only Danny East who came out with any credit at all. Harper and McKenna has to be the worst midfield pairing I've seen for years, did they play a single ball forward all night? I'm at a loss to understand why we went with them in the middle and at even more of a loss to understand why it wasn't changed for the second half. Pearson ****ed up last night, no doubt about, but are we seriously going to turn into the sort of ****er fans who call for the managers head after one **** performance against lower league opposition in the Carling Cup?
My God, there's people out there claiming to be City Fans who would be moaning if we had won the first two matches 5-0!!! As we only fielded 4 players on the bench, it's difficult to imagine how NP could have changed things around. But is does show just how thin our squad is now, in terms of quality. I am certain we will fill our loan allocation once more when the window opens and experience suggests young, hungry, QUALITY will come in, probably from United again. This season is only one game in and whilst I'm as ambitious as the next person, we are not financially in the same league as several of our competitors. the club has had to strip away an awful lot of what was left behind by the old regime, and there is still some to be removed. Rebuilding will be slow due to the Allams being keen to keep to a tight budget and who can blame them after they have just spunked nearly £50m just to allow us to have a club to follow. Some people would do well to stand back, reel their necks in and appreciate what a good job the management team are doing under very difficult circumstances.
Fryatt needs dozens of chances to score, his positioning is brilliant, he is a right place, right time player, but wrong finish.
Just out of interest, apart from McLean who is yet to prove his worth, can you tell me who are the players we have spent money on who have not been solid additions to the team/squad please?
I completely misread this at first, and spent ages writing a massive list of every player I thought was a good signing. I only just noticed you're actually saying the opposite. Not sure why though, I was saying myself that we have spent a fair bit and got a decent squad together. So NP cannot blame finances or his squad any more, as it is his squad and they are good players.
Yeah it is, the first time they did that was the last one I bothered listening to or reading the write up of (unless something was highlighted to me to go and look at) so maybe they changed it back afterwards because of the complaints. They were pathetic though. They were basically an opportunity for people to go and try to crawl as far up AP's arse as possible, and if anyone criticised the club/team they got booed down before they could make their point (the name Fenwick springs to mind). The FLC was a much more effective way of getting points across to the club and getting questions answered because there weren't a load of bell ends that thought blindly agreeing with and accepting what ever the club did was what fans should do.
Radio Humberside goes off air now @ 10pm. His interviews are on the web site and also played in full on sports talk the next night. You had to wait until after 5pm on saturday to hear his friday night interview. Complain to the local radio stattion. FAO:- Matt Dean, New sports editor and scunny reporter.
I'm not a Pearson basher by any means but the situation with the strikers is a bit worrying at the moment, last night should have been a good chance for players to let rip on goal and the fact is it didn't happen. Hopefully we will get back on track v Ipswich.
I'll certainly turn into a Pearson basher if he continues the way he is in interviews in the future.. what an absolute ****. He's like a child that's been grounded after we lose, it's unprofessional and really quite pathetic. Burnsy: What are you going to do in the future to try and help improve performances? NP: Pick the best team available. (Really, Nige, really? I would never have thought of that) Burnsy: Can you take any positives from the game? NP: If you want to do then fine. But I won't. Those aren't exact quotes but you get the idea, he acts like a complete an utter **** when we lose and it's doing my head in. And before anyone says it, I'm not calling for him to be sacked etc, I'm just saying at the age of 47 maybe it's time to grow up?
i arent saying sack him, but in defence of the ones that are..it isnt just last night,.,there saying it after watching home performances like that for 1 whole year now, with the possible exception of 1 or 2 games...
What exactly is wrong with those replies? You ever heard Dalglish, Strachan even Fergie at times? A losing manager is usually an unhappy one. I heard Phil Brown give enough smarmy answers to think nothing of Pearsons frank blunt and honest interviews.
You can forgive them though because they're successful, Pearson's not, so it's pretty frustrating to listen to him be that arrogant in interviews and press conferences, because quite frankly, his arrogance is unwarranted and the sooner he goes, the better.
It's just he doesn't trust the media, is that difficult to understand? There's no point in him using 10 words when 3 will do. I feel he doesn't care about the media, but he knows he has to deal them, and satisfy muppets like you. You want him to turn into semi-Brown? Get off his case, you're not helping, right? After the week that I've had in London, you come across as pretty pathetic.
is pearson not pregnant yet. with all that bumming and sucking up of hobbs and fryatt he should be at least 8 weeks. BORING BORING PEARSON! BORING BORING PEARSON! BORING BORING PEARSON!
