Morning, crew. In the past I’ve been one to crib racing on TV but how brilliant was Brough Scott on Saturday?!? Played the part of ‘Grumpy Old Man’ to absolute perfection. He so mastered Luke Harvey at every turn and after just a few mins had the latter close to blubbing. The highlight had to be when old boy Brough cribbed Alary (prior to him running), saying he most deffo wasn’t ‘all that’ and that Colin Tizzard had been sprouting rubbish about him. Harvey started blubbing and gaped wide eyed, ‘But Colin Tizzard wouldn’t say anything that wasn’t true’. ‘Oh for goodness sake’, raged Brough, ‘He’s a trainer isn’t he!’ Brilliant put down of both that profession and the Harvey chap. Nothing for me today but an interesting entry from old Saint Nick is Volnay De Thaix in a ‘Pertemps Qualifier’ on Friday. He’s now on 150 down 8 lbs from his last run over hurdles. Can see the old boy, later in the week, coming home in 5th or 6th place, getting a further ratings reduction and then being ‘highly competitive’ in the old Final. Nudge, nudge, wink, wink, say no more… Good luck all.
While I’m on, for info, Newsworthy one of the forum’s fave horses is up for sale and again and will go under the hammer later in the week. The 7YO has been housed in 3 different barns, over the course of the last 12 months, and now looks set for yet another move! Interesting to see if new connections can tap into his undoubted potential. A mark of 114 would you think give considerable ‘room to manoeuvre’. This is his sales page - http://www.goffsuk.com/GoffsCMS/_Sales/139/128.pdf
I must say the market for the juvenile hurdle (2:20) at Bangor looks very lopsided. Alan King's Timoteo may well have come with a decent reputation from France but he was only 5th off 120 in a fairly average Leicester handicap and I think, at the prices, he is too skinny. One who can go well at a decent price is the top one Bob's Boy who was far from disgraced on hurdle debut and should have come on plenty for that. 8/1 looks worth an e/w poke.
I know the owner of Bob's Boy- this is his comment when asked about the horse- Latest from trainer - he's sharpened up from last race and will be bang on! It's a hotter race than Wetherby but still solid each-way. There are no negatives to report. I've had a nibble too so good luck to us both!
Took an EW on Bob's Boy when it was at tens - also lumped on American Patrol in the 2:00 at Wolverhampton after a tip from a guy this morning. I've also backed African Gold in the 2:50 at Bangor on nothing more than a hunch. GLA
Anyone have roast potatoes for lunch, or maybe some nice brown toast for breakfast? Think on! ( or maybe not, these so called experts, eh? ) And if chips are bad for me, best stay away from McCain. Nah, nice McCain double at Bangor I reckon - Whiskey Chaser and Only a Tipple Good Luck.
My boss's best mate - think he works in the bookie side rather than the horse game. He occasionally gives us titbits and they're almost always running in maidens and their price plummets after he tells us but of the 5 he's given me over the past few months, 4 won and one lost by a neck. I'll try to get them up on the daily thread as soon as I hear any but there always seems to be a mad dash to get them on as the price tumbles
