Excellent performance. JWP was MOTM. Outstanding today. Tadic much better as well. Yoshida coped with VVD's exit very well. But something had to go wrong and a potentially devastating loss of Virgil on Wednesday is pretty hard to stomach.
IF vvd isn't fit for wednesday, I'd be tempted to shift Bertrand over to central defence and play McQueen on the left. I have faith in Stephens but that would be a huge game to throw him into - even harder that it's up at Anfield.
Cracking day. Good for confidence of all the players - they all did well. Virgil's injury is said to be impact rather than muscular so has to be a good chance of recovering in time.
Lots of English talent on show for the English manager to watch, JWP, Ryan, JRod and Redmond all impressed, even Forster on the few times he touched the ball managed to find a saints player. There were some negatives for southgate though, Drinkwater, vardy and Gray were all pants
Height is not so important against Pool, ryan would be probably better as he has quick feet which is better suited to thier quick passing style of play
It's been a cracking footballing day you know - firstly my son's team (under 9s) record their first win of the season, followed by saints putting in an assured, confidence boosting performance against Leicester. Excellent stuff all round.
With the benefit of 100% hindsight, Stephens filled the Virgil-shaped hole very competently indeed. One poor pass, otherwise perfect, I thought. Vin
He was but an evening match at Anfield that is also a semi final 2nd leg is a different kettle of fish. Not saying he couldn't do the job but that is a hell of an ask for a young inexperienced defender.
Brilliant win, will do wonders for confidence. JWP was a rejuvinated player after his very well taken goal and takes MOTM for me. Thought we were solid at the back as well even though Leicester didn't really offer much. Their fall from grace has been much bigger than ours, I can't seriously believe that team won the league last year. Stephens didn't do a lot wrong and got a bit of first game experience which he may need on Wednesday! Oh, and Jamie Vardy is a scumbag prick.
