Just watched the highlights, and as I felt a little guilty of my criticism of Green, I watched their goals again in slow motion & frame-by-frame. Goal 1: I still think Green was at fault. Very flat-footed, and positioning awful. When the cross was struck, he was at his front post. No problem with that. Then he slowly bounced along the line & stopped 1/3 of the way along. Should have been at the halfway point before he stopped IMO, then it would have been a simple catch or parry. When the header came in, his feet let him down. He started to put up his hands, but didn't have the wherewithall to move his feet at the same time. One sidestep would have been enough. Sadly, this happened a few times at the beginning of the season & I criticised him for it then. I've laid off him for quite a while, but it has to be said. Sorry to upset so many of you, but there is no doubt in my mind that Silvestri would have got to that. Easily. And if you disagree, at least take the time to analyse it that I have before you come back at me. There is clearly something wrong with Green's movement for this goal. Admittedly, it didn't help that Ayling marked no-one, leaving Bartley with 2 to mark. Did he mark the wrong one? Nope, he didn't mark any of them. He ran towards the goal & they took up position behind him. Don't be fooled (as I was) by his eventual dramatic lunge to cut it out. If he'd been concentrating, he'd have been on his man. Kudos to Coyle for spotting it & going in to mark the nearest man. Goal 2: Coyle got done by a little bit of brilliance. No doubt about that. Shot was a rasper, & well placed just inside the far post, so I'll lay off Green a bit. However, he was about a yard off his line, and had bounced from the middle of goal to the near post. Fine if you move out too, but he didn't. When he dived to the side, he only managed to stretch to the mid-point of the goal, if you watched the head-on replay. I've not played in goals, but I always understood that the basic fundamental drummed into them was 'angle, angle, angle - get that right & no-one can fault you if it's a fast shot'. It was a fast shot, but he had no angle at all. Disappointing for such an experienced 'keeper. Goal 3: Green absolved from blame. Excellently taken free kick. 2 faults on our part. 1 - where was the guy running at the kicker? They had time to pass, stop & kick. Someone thundering towards them might have put them off. Tactical mistake by Mr Monk IMO. 2- A pet hate of mine - cowardice. I hate someone turning their back on the ball, especially a battle-hardened, hairy-arsed CB. Bartley was the last man in the line. He jumped up, but turned his back just as the ball came to him. Watching the head-on replay, it's clear to see that it would have hit him if he had been wide (i.e. face-on). He wasn't. I'm hugely disappointed in him for doing this.
All my sons have tatts up their arms, but yes it is the twice arrested son. He nearly ****ed the tv out the window after that ref deans decisions, lucky I cooled things down.. Hardly rivals, difference is they won't get into the play offs we are and we will go up. CREW CREW CREW and yes I do take defeat hard
Interesting stat ... LUFCDATA @LUFCDATA Leeds' record when Chris Wood has scored in competitive games: Won: 18 Drawn: 10 Lost: 1 All good things come to an end.
Another interesting stat: Last year we earned our 48th point away to QPR on April 5th, our 39th game. We did it this year against Derby on January 13th, our 26th game. Measurable progress.
So you're very disappointed in Monk but I'm wrong about Doukarra because the same Monk didn't take him off? Thank you for your assessment that I obviously have a problem with Doukarra (I do). It was good of you to clear that up before your latest rant about Green
Hmm.. I did just watch replays myself. I think your analyse ain't bad. I don't think positioning would've saved their second goal, that was superbly placed and had a decent amount of power behind it as well. The main reason I'm hesitant to blame Green for the first is because the defending should've been soooo much better. If a player gets a head on it from that range you would expect him to score, should never have been allowed.
I only pointed it out! Someone has to compensate for billys unreasonable and unevidenced optimistic nonesense....
Pontus...taylor okane...another new striker with pace and control.a left winger who can cross the ball and vary corner kicks.plus i think an old hand in reserve at centre back. Rob gree n is not good enough he is limited and too old.his good days have gone. Play offs are all we can hope for now.but without additions this side will not go up.
