Morocco have announced that they are banning the sale of full faced Burkas as they believe they are a symbol of Islamic extremism.. I would like to see us follow suit as I believe there is no place for them in an open western society.

If a Muslim country has started to ban them then surely it cannot be too long before others follow suit.
I really don't know what to make of this anymore.
I was generally all for it because of the security issue, however, having listened to a lot of women who wear the burka it doesn't seem as oppressive as I first thought. The majority actually choose to wear this and will wear this giving the choice.
We haven't had a terrorist attack for years and the last one was what them bastards done to Lee Rigby, that had nothing to do with the burka. So it all comes down to, who are we to tell people how to follow their faith and what to wear?
I'm not against banning it, I'm just not all for it like I once was and I'm pretty much undecided and open to listening to both sides.

I remember a few years ago a story where a muslim lady, a teacher in a mixed infants/junior school, was kicking up a stink because she wanted to wear a burka whilst teaching. I think the idea is absurd because I feel an important part of teaching and learning, interaction, will be stunted by the barrier which will be created by just having a teachers pair of eyes exposed. To me the banning of the burka has nothing to do with having a dig at a religion. If nuns went around covering the majority of their faces I would be against that also. Its about it being anti social and potentially a security risk.
I understand the security concerns thanks to how the Burka has been used by terrorists in the past etc. As usual they **** it up for the rest of us.
But don't be fooled by years of indoctrination by the media plus social concepts and insecurities. Women who wear Burkas are seen as strong willed women in the communities they reside in, they don't really give a **** what anyone thinks, they have strong beliefs and are totally at peace with themselves. No doubt there are stories of women who have had to wear it. However that's not what Islam says, the face veil is not an obligation. There is a dress code to adhere to but covering the face is not a must. It can't be helped if individuals and cultures get their thoughts twisted. Its not what Islam says.
Not here to argue about Islam and the but but's...i can seperate what it teaches me to how it gets twisted for terrorist needs...I'm at peace with it. Just thought I'd let you know from being a muzzy Kant myself.

I think people should be allowed to wear what they want to be honest.
As long as they remove their burka, their gimp mask or their strap on when a policeman/border control agent ask them to I really don't see a problem with it.

They should be banned in cars and airports, as a minimum. I'm sure I could think of other security-related places. I don't like the concealment element, I couldn't give a **** what the slag looks like underneath.
Currently, if I was a Polish asylum seeker who is wanted for armed robbery, I'd just stick a burqah/niqab on every time I left the house, it has to be better than that.

When THE STATE feels the need to tell it's population how to dress we will have reached 'Police State' level.
The above post just about covers the security implications, why go further?
Just because The PC Brigade are anti-Christian (with their don't wear a cross at work campaign), that's no reason to foist an equally unfair rule onto followers of a different faith.
